Nasturtiums are fairly easy to cultivate and have many uses and benefits, making them very popular. In the process of growing nasturtiums, you need to master the techniques so that they keep blooming and grow more vigorous. Below is the nasturtium growing guide!

How to grow nasturtiums

(1). Choosing soil

Nasturtiums need sandy soil rich in humus with good drainage, with a pH between 5 and 6. Loosen the soil regularly to avoid compaction and ensure the soil stays aerated, otherwise water easily accumulates. Only a good soil environment can ensure healthy root growth.

(2). Suitable temperature

The suitable growing temperature for nasturtiums is 18-24°C, the suitable germination temperature is 8-20°C, and in winter the temperature needs to stay above 10°C so they can overwinter safely without frost damage. In summer, the temperature needs to stay below 35°C, otherwise it is very hard to get the plant to bloom.

(3). Plenty of light

Nasturtiums need plenty of light during the growing season. In spring, autumn and winter, ensure ample light and place them in a sunny spot; in summer, provide shade to avoid scorching and excessively high temperatures, which can affect blooming.

(4). Water and fertilizer management

Water and nutrients are crucial to the growth and blooming of nasturtiums. In spring and autumn, water once every 2-3 days; in summer, increase watering frequency to once a day, and when temperatures are high, mist frequently to cool and retain moisture. During the flowering period, reduce watering to avoid leggy stems. Fertilize mainly with compound fertilizer to ensure balanced nutrients, which benefits plant growth and blooming. Do not apply concentrated fertilizer, otherwise it will cause fertilizer burn.
