What we are introducing below is papyrus, an extremely easy-to-grow plant. In the more southern regions, papyrus cultivated in the open ground can reach 4-5 m tall when simply planted in the ground. It can grow in soil or in water, grows vigorously very easily, and is a very good ornamental bamboo. It is also a good material for making papyrus paper.

Papyrus simply loves that kind of moist and warm environment, and is suitable for planting by the water. It can be grown in pots, and is generally planted in ponds. It is a very good ornamental plant for waterscapes.

In the north it can be kept as a potted plant, and in some places it is grown as an annual plant. It can be propagated by sowing seeds.

Some friends plant it in a water vat, where the rhizomes can grow even when soaked in water, but there must be mud at the bottom. As long as the soil can hold the roots in place, it will keep growing. If the light is poor, papyrus will grow extremely slowly.

If you want papyrus to grow even better, then you need to give it as much light as possible. In summer, when water evaporates quickly, you can shade it appropriately to avoid the water temperature getting too high and causing the branches and leaves to wither.

Of course, you should also avoid strong winds, especially in water with not much soil. Another thing to note is temperature. Papyrus is not a cold-tolerant plant. The best minimum maintenance temperature is above 5°C, and the most suitable growing temperature is between 20-30°C.

Papyrus has a very low demand for fertilizer. You only need to give it a little diluted fertilizer water once a month in spring and autumn. The concentration should be less than half of usual. You cannot give too much or too concentrated fertilizer.

If the temperature is too low in winter, you can transplant papyrus indoors for maintenance, and you should provide appropriate lighting, or place it on a windowsill with scattered light, so as to promote better growth of papyrus. After spring warms up, transplant it outdoors again for maintenance.
