Summer is too hot, not only people feel uncomfortable, but flowers feel bad too. High-temperature weather leaves many flowers with no energy at all, their leaves drooping. Actually, some flowers are quite suitable for planting and care in summer, they like basking in the sun, and the more they are sunned, the more beautiful they become.

Today let's talk about verbena (Glandularia), a flowering plant that absolutely loves sunlight. Normally we can just put it on the balcony, and there is no need to move it back and forth.

Verbena is also called four-season hydrangea. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that comes from the Americas, but it has been in China for quite a long time too. Its name is beautiful, and its form is graceful as well. When it blooms, the flowers are numerous and brightly colored, with rich colors too. When they bloom in patches, they are like a sea of flowers. Whether appreciated as a potted plant or used to decorate a balcony, garden, and so on, it is very beautiful.

Another characteristic is that verbena's flowering period is especially long. It can start blooming in April in spring and keep flowering until around November. It likes sunlight and is not tolerant of shade. With sufficient sunlight, the more it is sunned, the more vivid it becomes, and it blooms in profusion. The hottest time in summer is exactly when it blooms most luxuriantly.

Once there is insufficient sunlight, verbena will not only bloom poorly, but even the flowers it does produce will be dull and lusterless in color.

When verbena blooms, it keeps pushing out flower buds from the top. Its flower quantity is large and its growth rate is fast too. When its branches grow especially long, we can also grow it into a kind of flowering hanging plant, hanging it up to grow, which is very beautiful.

In normal care of verbena, besides sunlight, which must be provided, it also has a high water demand. Especially during the growing season, we should keep its potting soil moist, and just water thoroughly without letting water accumulate.

Because verbena grows fast and blooms abundantly, during its growing season it should also be given appropriate topdressing. During the flowering period, a thin fertilizer mainly of phosphorus and potassium elements can be applied once a month.

With verbena this easy to grow and with a long enough flowering period, growing a few more pots means turning the balcony into a sea of flowers is no problem either. And in summer there is no need for shade; just leave it on the balcony in the sun.
