How to prune the roots of lucky bamboo? A detailed guide to the correct method

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
When cutting the roots, make a slight diagonal cut at a suitable position to increase the contact surface with water, so that it can absorb nutrients and water more fully. When pruning the roots, remove the rotten, damaged, poorly growing and old roots. After pruning, be sure to replace the water promptly, and take care not to damage the newly grown roots.

1. Why prune the roots

By cutting off part of the root tendrils, we can inhibit its growth and encourage it to grow new roots, which can gradually achieve the goal of limiting its height. If new root tendrils have already grown from the original cut, you can continue cutting and remove its original old root tendrils. This repeated cycle can continuously reduce the height of the lucky bamboo and bring it to the ideal height.

2. Pruning method

When cutting the roots, make a slight diagonal cut at a suitable position; the diagonal cut is meant to increase the surface for absorbing water and nutrients. When pruning, remove the rotten roots, damaged roots, old roots and poorly growing roots from the root system, and take care not to damage the newly grown roots.

3. Care after pruning

After pruning, you can let it dry in the air for a few hours, then put it back into the container with water for care. During care, be sure to change the water about every 3 days, and try not to move the position and direction of the vase within half a month; in this way, new roots will basically grow out in about half a month.
