1. Differences in appearance

French marigold is about 30-100 cm tall, with branches spreading at an angle. Aztec marigold is taller, about 50-150 cm, with branches spreading upward and flat.

2. Differences in leaves

French marigold leaves are pinnately divided, about 2-9 cm long and about 1.5-3 cm wide, with linear-lanceolate lobes and serrated edges. Compared with the former, Aztec marigold leaves are larger and longer, about 5-10 cm long and about 4-8 cm wide, with lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate lobes, also serrated.

3. Differences in flowers

French marigold has solitary flower heads. They are about 3.5-4 cm in diameter, golden yellow or orange, often with red spots, and the petals are relatively smooth. Aztec marigold flowers are overall a bit larger, about 6-8 cm in diameter, yellow or dark orange, with toothed and not smooth petal edges.
