What to Do When Spider Plant Leaves Wither? Cause Analysis and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Withered leaves on a spider plant may be caused by not repotting for a long time, as the soil has caked together, so it should be repotted regularly. It may also be that the light is too strong and the leaves have been damaged, so light exposure should be reduced. Furthermore, it may be that too much fertilizer has caused fertilizer burn, so fertilization should be paused first, and afterward fertilizing once every seven to ten days is enough. It may also be that the moisture level is unsuitable; watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged is best.

1. Repot regularly

(1) Specific cause: No matter what kind of plant it is, it is best to repot it regularly; otherwise, the plant may not have enough space to grow and will not have enough nutrients either. After that, its leaves are prone to withering.

(2) Solution: Repot regularly. Generally speaking, this should be done once a year, in March. However, if the base fertilizer in the soil is fairly sufficient, then it can be done once every two years.

2. Provide indirect light

(1) Specific cause: In summer, when the light is very strong, withered leaves occur very easily. Light that is too intense speeds up the loss of water from the leaves, causing sunburn.

(2) Solution: First place it in a semi-shaded spot for a period of time, then give it indirect light. In summer, shade must be provided, with a shading level of 50 percent to 70 percent.

3. Pause fertilization

(1) Specific cause: Fertilizer burn can also cause the leaves to wither. For example, the concentration may be too high, or the amount may be too much, and so on.

(2) Solution: Pause fertilization first, and wait until the plant returns to normal before continuing to fertilize. Late spring to late autumn is the stage when fertilizer is needed, with liquid fertilizer once every week to ten days, and not too much.

4. Moist but not waterlogged

(1) Specific cause: Unsuitable moisture is also an important cause. Whether it is too much or too little, both can lead to withered leaves.

(2) Solution: A suitable amount of water means keeping the potting soil moist, but not waterlogged. Neither extreme is acceptable.
