Lemon potted plant
Many gardening enthusiasts buy lemons to make tea, which has the effects of promoting fluid production and quenching thirst, stimulating the appetite and refreshing the mind, and whitening and nourishing the skin. The method for growing lemon seeds as a potted plant is similar to that for oranges and pomelos: soak them, peel them, and put them in soil to wait for germination. Here we can also introduce the paper towel germination method.
Carefully peel off the outer skin of the lemon seeds, wrap them in a paper towel, spray with water to moisten, and put them in a ziplock bag or freshness bag. You can let them breathe 1-2 times a day, keep the paper towel moist during this period, and wait for about 7 days.
Put the sprouted seedlings into the potting soil, and once they grow strong you can carefully transplant the seedlings.
Orange potted plant
Oranges are a common fruit in the south, available in large quantities and cheap, and full of juice. They have the effects of stimulating the appetite and regulating qi, quenching thirst and moistening the lungs, and beautifying and caring for the skin, so eating a little is especially good.
Collect the seeds from the oranges you have eaten, soak them in clean water for about 1 week, changing the water every day during this period to keep the seeds clean. Remove the hard skin on the surface of the orange seeds; you can carefully peel it off with tweezers, which helps the seeds germinate. Place the seeds one by one into the potting soil, with the pointed end facing up and the round end facing down. Cover with about 1cm of soil, and they will sprout in about 3 weeks.
Pomelo potted plant
Pomelo is a traditional Chinese medicine, sweet and sour in taste and cold in nature, and eating it helps reduce internal heat. It has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, relieving cough and calming asthma, and aiding digestion and regulating qi. The pomelo tree is somewhat like the orange tree, and at first glance it is not easy to tell them apart.
Pomelo seeds are also very refreshing when used to make a small potted plant. Soak the leftover pomelo seeds in water for 7 days as well, changing the water every day during this period. After the outer skin has softened, you can remove the shell with tweezers or a craft knife. With the small end facing up and the large end facing down, cover with about 1cm of soil, and they will sprout in 1-2 weeks.
Apple potted plant
Apple is the most popular fruit of all. Because we eat so many, these days it seems fewer people eat apples instead. Apples have the effects of nourishing the brain and blood and calming the mind and aiding sleep. Foreigners also say, one apple a day keeps the doctor away. Eating apples really does have many benefits.
Collect the apple seeds, put a paper towel in a box, place the seeds on the paper towel, cover with another layer of paper towel, spray with water to moisten, put the lid on, and wait 3-4 days for germination. Put the sprouted seeds into the potting soil with the roots facing down and the heads facing up, then patiently wait for them to become small potted plants.
Dragon fruit potted plant
Dragon fruit is the fruit of the three-angled column cactus of the cactus family; in some places it is also called dragon bone or measuring-the-sky ruler. Its flowers are very beautiful, somewhat similar to those of the epiphyllum. It is one of the fruits commonly eaten in autumn and winter, and dragon fruit seeds make a very beautiful potted plant!
Find a small spoon and scoop out the dragon fruit flesh. Of course, if it is the bits of flesh stuck to the peel left after eating, that is even better, with nothing wasted at all. Wrap it in gauze; if you do not have gauze, a stocking works too. Put it in a bowl, add water, and use your hands to rub the seeds free from the flesh.
Pour it into a basin, and the dragon fruit flesh will float up while the seeds stay at the bottom. Rinse repeatedly, pour off the flesh, and you will get clean seeds.
Sprinkle the seeds into a flower pot, water thoroughly, and wait for the seeds to sprout.
After half a year it starts to take on a bit of the shape of the measuring-the-sky ruler!
When it is a bit bigger it looks like this
Isn't it still cuter when it is young?
If you are a gardening enthusiast in Guangdong, Guangxi, southern Yunnan, Taiwan, China, Hainan Island, southern Jiangxi and Fujian, and other places, you can sow the seeds and wait for fruit. Enthusiasts in other places may only be able to grow them as potted plants for viewing. Generally it takes 4-5 years from seed to fruiting, and when it flowers it is best to hand-pollinate, otherwise the fruiting rate is rather poor.
However, besides being grown as an ornamental potted plant, the measuring-the-sky ruler can also be used to graft Christmas cactus, which is very practical! Making a multi-tiered flower tower is still quite spectacular!
Isn't it pretty simple?
If you like it, come and sow a pot too!
