Hydrangea cuttings are actually quite easy and won't take up much of a gardener's time, so let's get straight to the key points and learn about this gardener's hydrangea cutting method. Cutting medium (important): 70% substrate + 15% Northeast China peat + 15% coarse coconut coir + 15% perlite. Taking the cuttings (as shown below)
The photo above shows a tender shoot, and the one below shows a slightly older branch. Each has its pros and cons: tender shoots root quickly (but need careful management, as high temperatures will rot them), while older ones can be managed more roughly.
Insert the cuttings into the medium, then water thoroughly (so the cuttings and medium bind tightly together). Without good contact, the cuttings dehydrate easily, which affects rooting. Normally the medium should not be too wet - just enough to keep the seedlings from wilting.
On sunny days, cover with shade netting (I used 2 layers (relatively shady; hydrangeas like shade, and taking it down in the morning and evening to let them get some sunlight is acceptable, as it helps photosynthesis and nutrient accumulation for rooting)
