When we talk about growing plants in pots, the first thing that comes to mind is usually a wide variety of beautiful flowers in all shapes and forms. But besides these eye-pleasing little beauties, there are also some "practical" plants we can consider. For example, in the scorching summer we always shut ourselves in air-conditioned rooms blasting cold air, which can easily cause a series of health problems. At times like this, eating some ginger will surely help ease the condition. In fact, growing ginger is quite simple. As long as you are willing to spend a little time, you can instantly turn your balcony from a flower garden into a vegetable garden, and living a self-sufficient life is quite lovely too!

Why choose ginger as our summer crop? There are actually two reasons. First, it comes from its unique benefits. As the older generation often says, "Eat radish in winter and ginger in summer." Getting ginger in summer is something you absolutely must not be careless about, because ginger not only promotes sweating and relieves summer heat and fatigue, but also effectively relieves symptoms such as loss of appetite and picky eating. If you have children at home, then you really must grow some ginger. Second, growing ginger itself is also very simple. Even a complete beginner can handle it easily. A little soil, a flower pot, and a few steps, and you can grow good ginger. Why not do it?

The specific growing method: First, we can gather ginger from home that we cannot finish eating. If the ginger has already sprouted, then cut off the sprouted part (you can leave a little bit of the ginger flesh) and use it as the candidate material for planting. If the ginger has not sprouted, we can soak it in clean water and wait until it sprouts, then repeat the operation above. In this way, we get the most basic "seeds" for growing ginger!

If your home already has the habit of growing flowers and plants on the balcony, then you can directly find some flower pots and potting soil from your other potted plants, then insert the sprouted ginger pieces one by one into the soil, and finally cover them with potting soil so that the young ginger sprouts can be completely surrounded by soil. If you do not have flower pots, you can also directly use a large plastic bottle instead. As for the soil, ordinary garden soil from green belts, residential compounds, or parks can all be used. However, we suggest that before use, it is best to pick out impurities and then put these soils under the sun for one or two days to remove pathogens and insect eggs.

Place the prepared ginger pot on the balcony. Ginger does not have high requirements for light. After watering it thoroughly once, in about half a week, the previous small sprouts will break through the soil. This means the ginger has begun to grow. In the days after that, we only need to replenish water for the ginger pot in time. Watering should also follow the principle of "water when dry, stop when wet": when the potting soil becomes lighter and turns pale, water it thoroughly once, and do a good job of preventing waterlogging in summer. Ginger likes a relatively humid environment, so appropriately using a spray bottle to mist around the pot is also a good method.

Follow the steps above, and after about 3 months, the harvest season arrives. Looking at each piece of ginger you grew yourself, do you not feel a special sense of accomplishment?
