A detailed guide to sowing Desert Rose seeds, easy for beginners to learn too

The sowing time for Desert Rose is in spring and summer. Prepare a growing medium with suitable looseness and moisture in advance, then spread the seeds flat on top, cover with a layer of fine soil, and wait for them to sprout.

1. Sowing time

Desert Rose is a drought-tolerant plant, so the best sowing time is spring and summer, when the climate is stable and the temperature is on the higher side. In autumn and winter the temperature is too low; even if the Desert Rose seeds germinate, the survival rate is especially low. So try to sow in spring and summer.

2. Sowing method

1. Growing medium

Its seeds have relatively high requirements for the looseness and moisture of the growing medium. When preparing the soil, it is best to mix in some expanded clay pellets, which can increase the looseness of the soil and make it more breathable. After the soil is ready, mix in water before sowing, mixing until the soil is moist and its color has darkened slightly.

2. Sowing

When sowing, the seeds need to be spread flat on the growing medium, with no need for deep burial. For ten square cm of growing medium, use no more than ten seeds at most, because if there are too many seeds, the growing space will be limited and the seedlings will not develop well. After the seeds are spread flat, evenly scatter a layer of fine soil on top. Once this is done, water thoroughly once and wait for them to sprout.

3. Care after sowing

After sowing, place the growing tray in a spot with bright light and good ventilation; a window facing roughly south is most suitable. Also be careful not to let it be exposed to harsh sunlight. Keep the temperature of its growing environment at around 21 degrees.

4. Thinning

After the seeds germinate and grow into seedlings, pull out the weak and unhealthy seedlings to leave growing space and nutrients for the healthy seedlings. Once it grows four tender leaves, it can be transplanted into a pot.
