Reasons Why the Money Tree Does Not Grow New Shoots and How to Fix It

There are many reasons why a money tree (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) does not grow new shoots. If it is caused by a lack of water, you need to replenish water in time. If it is caused by too low a temperature, you need to keep it at around 20°C. If it is caused by insufficient fertilizer, you need to apply some compound fertilizer. If it is a normal situation where the time has not yet come, just wait. If it is caused by too much standing water, you need to take it out of the pot, let it dry, and then repot it.

1. Replenish water in time

(1) Specific reason: To send out new shoots, it cannot do without the help of water. Moreover, if the plant is in a dry state for a long time, the soil will become severely compacted. The roots will then be damaged, and new shoots will not be able to grow.

(2) Solution: Observe the condition of the surface soil often. If it is dry, replenish it in time to keep it moist.

2. Adjust the temperature

(1) Specific reason: Only when the temperature is within a suitable range can the plant send out new shoots. If the temperature is too low, the plant suffers cold damage and naturally cannot send them out.

(2) Solution: Take heat-preservation measures to ensure the temperature is around 20°C.

3. Use compound fertilizer

(1) Specific reason: The money tree is rather fond of fertilizer, and growing new shoots requires a sufficient amount of fertilizer. If the fertility is not enough, it cannot grow new shoots.

(2) Solution: During the growth stage, use compound fertilizer, but the concentration must not be too high.

4. Wait patiently

(1) Specific reason: Sometimes this is a normal phenomenon. For example, after propagation, it takes about three months before new shoots are sent out.

(2) Solution: If this is the reason, then there is no need to take special measures; just wait quietly.

5. Take it out of the pot and let it dry

(1) Specific reason: With too much standing water, the roots will rot, and new shoots cannot grow.

(2) Solution: First take the plant out. If the root rot is severe, disinfect it first. After that, place it in a cool place, and repot it after it dries.
