What causes a cast iron plant (Aspidistra) to stop growing
1. Soil that is not breathable or has too few nutrients
(1) Specific cause: For a cast iron plant to grow, it needs the help of the soil. If the soil is poor, the cast iron plant may not grow. Specifically, if the soil has not been loosened for a long time, it will clump up and the soil will not be breathable; or if the soil has not been changed for a long time, the nutrients it contains will not be supplied adequately, and either of these can cause the cast iron plant to stop growing.
(2) Solution: You can add some base fertilizer to the soil. However, a better measure is still to loosen and change the soil regularly. Generally speaking, changing the soil in spring is better.
2. Insufficient fertilizer
(1) Specific cause: During the growing period, a cast iron plant needs a certain amount of fertilizer. If none is used, it may not grow.
(2) Solution: When growth is vigorous, use some fertilizer as appropriate.
3. Unsuitable moisture
(1) Specific cause: Water also has a very large impact on the growth of a cast iron plant. Too much or too little are both important causes of a cast iron plant not growing.
(2) Solution: Generally speaking, if it is in a sunny spot, water it once every three or four days. Do not make the interval too long, and do not water too much at one time.
4. Not adapted to the environment
(1) Specific cause: If the plant's environment is suddenly changed and it does not adapt in time, it may also temporarily stop growing.
(2) Solution: At this point there is no need to take special measures. Just wait for it to adapt to the environment.
