Why Isn't Your Aspidistra Putting Out New Shoots? Causes and Solutions
1. A poor flower pot
(1) Specific cause: The quality of the flower pot affects the growth of the plant's new shoots. If the pot is not breathable, the plant's respiration is affected and new shoots cannot emerge. Also, if the pot is too small and there is not enough space, new shoots cannot emerge either.
(2) Solution: Choose a good flower pot from the start, one that is breathable and permeable to water. A clay pot is best, followed by a purple clay pot. In addition, repot regularly, and promptly move the plant to a larger pot as it grows.
2. Unsuitable light
(1) Specific cause: To grow new shoots, the plant needs light. So if it stays in the dark for a long time, new shoots will not emerge. However, the light must not be too strong direct sunlight either, as too strong light also has an effect.
(2) Solution: It is best to place it where there is scattered light, and shade it if the light is too strong.
3. Insufficient nutrients
(1) Specific cause: There are two possibilities: the soil may be lacking nutrients, or fertilizer may not have been applied.
(2) Solution: For the first case, change the soil regularly. If it is the second, then apply a moderate amount of light fertilizer when the plant is growing vigorously.
4. Unsuitable temperature and moisture
(1) Specific cause: Temperature that is too high or too low, and water that is too much or too little, are both reasons for not growing new shoots.
(2) Solution: A temperature of 10 to 25 degrees is better. Water only after you see the surface soil has dried, generally once every three or four days.
