A "pothos pro" grows pothos by tossing a "bare-stem commander" into a pot: sprouts in 1 week, a "full pot" in 3 weeks!

As people's living standards rise, growing flowers indoors not only beautifies the home but also purifies the air and absorbs harmful substances from indoor renovations. As the most popular houseplant, pothos (Epipremnum aureum) is mainly known for effectively absorbing harmful substances such as formaldehyde and benzene from the air. Pothos is not only very useful, but also easy to care for and propagate day to day.

Pothos is usually propagated by cuttings: snip off a section of pothos stem and stick it in soil, and it will take root and sprout. It roots very easily. Today Shitou shares a very efficient pothos propagation method: just one pothos vine, cut off all the leaves to make a "bare-stem commander", then leave it in a pot and it will root and sprout within a week, and fill the pot in three weeks!

Trimming the vine

Cut a longer vine from the pothos pot, remove all the leaves, trim each node into a segment about 3 cm long, soak them in clean water for 2 hours, then take them out.

Potting and sealing

Lay the small segments evenly and flat on moist soil; be sure to choose moist, breathable soil, with the nodes close to the soil to help them root and sprout. Once arranged neatly, cover the pot with plastic wrap and tie it securely with string. Keep it in a shady spot; after a week, uncover the plastic wrap and you will see new shoots emerging.

Care and management

Place the sprouted pot in a spot indoors with indirect light, and keep the soil moist, but be careful to control watering and do not let the pot sit in water, otherwise rot easily occurs; when each stem has grown one full leaf, spray the plant with a 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate water solution. Potassium promotes rapid rooting, and phosphorus promotes rapid leaf growth. After three weeks the pothos will be full of new leaves and growing very quickly!

When it comes to growing pothos, many flower lovers ask why their pothos always has thin stems and small leaves; in fact, the main problem lies in the potting soil and the root system.

When caring for pothos, never use leaf mold alone, because leaf mold can burn the roots, and do not use pure garden soil either, as it has no nutrients and the roots tend to become compacted. When choosing soil, it is recommended to use a mix of leaf mold, garden soil and sand in equal proportions; this kind of soil is loose and breathable, nutritious, and helps the plant root and sprout and better take root and absorb nutrients.

As for root care, the main issue is that the roots are in a sub-healthy state, and the main cause is watering. Never think that because pothos likes moisture you should just keep watering the plant; water sitting in the pothos pot for a long time will also cause the roots to rot. Before each watering, check the soil's dryness and moisture with your finger, then water; water thoroughly at one go and do not let water accumulate.
