Summer is really tough on succulents - one slip and they're dead... Just the other day, Huahua heard the bad news again: a friend's 100-plus pots of succulents all ran into problems overnight, some dead, some damaged, all kinds of issues. Today let's look at these symptoms and treat them one by one!

Succulents turned into air-dried meat

Cause:

Succulents generally store water in their leaves,

In summer, sunlight is strong and evaporation is fast, so the leaves dehydrate and dry out easily. If it is especially dry, the whole plant can wither in a short time.

Solution

:

Use a spray bottle to mist water above the succulents. Be careful not to spray directly onto the succulents - just spray into the air to raise humidity and lower temperature. It is best to do this in the morning to maintain air humidity for the day and reduce water evaporation from the succulent leaves.

Succulents turned into boiled meat

Cause:

Too much watering and too high a temperature "steam-cook" the succulents - this is actually turning to mush. When you see the succulent leaves turn transparent and fall off at a touch, they have become boiled meat, and you must rescue them quickly!

Solution

:

Remove the mushy leaves, keep only the good ones, and place the plant in a ventilated spot without watering! In severe cases, dig it out, check whether the roots have rotted, cut off the rotten roots, soak them in carbendazim water to disinfect, then air-dry the roots in a shady place for 1 day, and replant.

Succulents turned into meat buns

Cause:

The succulent has gone dormant. The main sign is that it closes up like a bun. This is normal and means it is being well-behaved. Of course, conditions vary by region - for example, your Mountain Rose (Aeonium) has closed up, while someone else's has not. You must analyze each specific situation!

Solution

:

After the succulent closes up, gradually reduce watering - for example, first water once a week, then once every 10 days, then once every half month... until the weather cools and the leaves begin to open up, then you can slowly return to normal watering. During dormancy, it is best not to remove the dead leaves, as they provide protection.

Succulents turned into moldy dried greens

Cause:

In summer, if you water too much, or if rainy days bring high humidity, succulents easily suffer root rot and black rot. The leaves turn black, grow fuzz and rot. If not treated in time, it quickly spreads through the whole plant.

Solution

:

The appearance of black rot means the roots have already rotted. It is best to dig out the succulent, cut off the rotten roots, and soak them in carbendazim for 15 minutes to disinfect. Pour 1/2 clean water into a narrow-necked bottle, fix the succulent at the mouth of the bottle without letting it touch the water surface, and use the water vapor to encourage rooting - this has a higher success rate.

Succulents turned into big flat cakes

Cause:

The succulent leaves curl downward with no bun shape at all. This is also because the succulent has become leggy: the gaps between leaves are large, and strong evaporation from the leaf surface causes them to droop. If left alone, it will grow uglier and uglier!

Solution:

To control leggy growth, first restrain yourself and water less. If you are worried the succulent will get thirsty, you can mist the air to raise humidity. Also, give it sun - in summer, the morning and evening sun can shine directly on succulents; just provide shade at noon.

Succulents turned into five-spice roast meat

Cause:

When watering, if water lands on the succulent leaves and forms droplets, light refracted through them can scorch the succulent, forming patch after patch of sunburn spots. You know, refracted sunlight can even burn ants to death!

Solution:

When watering, try to pour water into the soil, not onto the succulents. If spraying is needed, choose a spray bottle with strong pressure so the mist is finer. When sunlight is strong, be sure to shade them even more to avoid too much damage from light refraction.

Succulents turned into little green vegetables

Cause:

Many flower lovers shade their succulents as soon as summer arrives, or simply move them indoors. Because of the lack of light, the succulents immediately look pale and vegetable-like, no different from green vegetables.

Solution:

If your succulents have always been grown outdoors, they are less likely to turn into green vegetables - just remember to shade them at noon. If your succulents have always been balcony or indoor plants, it is best to give them morning and evening sun, water less, and "control" the color out of them.
