How to Rescue Gardenia Leaves That Have Turned Yellow and Dried Up

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
If gardenia leaves turn yellow and dry up because of overwatering, take the plant out of its pot and put it back once the soil has dried; if it is caused by too much light, water it moderately and move it to a shady spot; if it is caused by too little light, take it out promptly to get some sun; if it is caused by too high a fertilizer concentration, promptly repot it with fresh soil or flush it with water.

1. Reduce watering

Cause: When a gardenia is overwatered during care, its young leaves turn dull and lusterless and grow slowly. The old leaves turn yellow and gradually wither.

Solution: Take the plant out of its pot and place it in a shaded, airy spot, then put it back in the pot once the soil has dried. Pay attention during normal care: if the leaf tips start to dry and wither, the old leaves turn yellow and even drop off, while the new leaves show nothing unusual, this indicates a lack of water, so water thoroughly.

2. Moderate light

Cause: Both too much and too little light can cause leaves to turn yellow and dry up. With long periods of direct strong light, yellow patches appear on the leaves and in time they dry up. But if the plant is kept in a shady spot without sunlight for a long time, the leaves drop off because they get no light.

Solution: If it has been exposed to strong light for a long time, move it promptly to a cool, airy spot; if the light is weak, you can take it out to get some sun in the evening when the sunlight is weak. It is best to keep it by a window.

3. Reasonable fertilizing

Cause: When growing a gardenia, if the fertilizer applied is too concentrated, the new leaves turn yellow and the leaf surface becomes uneven and lusterless, while the old leaves wither and drop off.
