Reasons and Solutions for Yellowing and Softening Leaves on Kalanchoe
1. Reduce watering
Cause: During normal care of kalanchoe, watering it too much will cause waterlogging, which prevents its roots from breathing properly, leading to yellowing leaves.
Solution: Loosen the soil slightly and place the plant in a ventilated spot. Once its leaves recover, water less. Generally, waiting until the soil has dried out completely before watering is fine; the soil just needs to have no excess moisture.
2. Increase watering
Cause: If you do not water it for a long time and the potting soil becomes too dry, its leaves will become soft and yellow, and leaf drop may also occur.
Solution: Replenish moisture promptly and gradually increase the amount of watering, but do not immediately pour on an excessive amount of water.
3. Proper lighting
Cause: Whether the sun is too strong or there is not enough sunlight, the leaves are very prone to problems; the leaf color will gradually fade and eventually turn yellow. At the same time, the leaves will also become soft.
Solution: Normally you can let it get some sun, but when the sun is relatively strong, be sure to provide shade. In winter, when the sunlight is not very good, you can place it indoors in a spot that gets sunlight; do not leave it without sunlight for long periods.
4. Appropriate fertilizing
Cause: When fertilizing kalanchoe, if the amount is too large or the fertilizer concentration is relatively high, the leaves will lose their luster and may even turn yellow and soft.
Solution: If the fertilizer amount is too large, water more to dilute the excess fertilizer. After the leaves recover, apply light fertilizer frequently, and do not fertilize in summer.
