The pothos at home is growing so well that it has outgrown its pot, and the old small pot can no longer hold it. So today I am going to repot the pothos into a slightly larger pot to let it breathe. Taking a potted plant out of its original pot and transplanting it into another pot is called repotting, but first we need to know why we repot, and then we will talk about how to repot.

1. Why potted flowers need repotting:

1. One reason is that as the seedling grows, its roots gradually fill the pot and young roots even grow out through the drainage holes at the bottom. At this point it needs to be moved into a larger pot and filled with fresh potting soil to expand the nutritional area, otherwise the growth of the flower will be restricted.

2. The other reason is that the flower plant has already taken shape, and because it has been cultivated for too long, the nutrients in the pot are lacking and the soil quality has deteriorated, so the potting soil also needs to be renewed. After removing it from the pot, clear away part of the old soil and old dead roots, fill in fresh potting soil, and plant it back into the original pot, or move it into a pot one size larger than the original for cultivation, so that it can continue to grow vigorously.

2. How to repot a potted "pothos":

1. Stop watering 1 to 2 days before repotting, so that the potting soil separates easily from the pot wall.

2. When repotting, shovel off a layer of the old soil from around the outside of the original root ball, cut off dead roots, curled roots and some old roots, fill fresh potting soil into a pot one size larger, and plant the pothos into it.

The outer fibrous roots like these should be trimmed off appropriately

Tip: Pothos repotting is best done during the plant's dormant period and before new buds sprout in early spring, for better results.
