Can Alocasia macrorrhizos be grown hydroponically? Hydroponic methods and care tips
I. It can be grown hydroponically
Alocasia macrorrhizos can be grown hydroponically, and compared with soil-grown plants, hydroponically grown plants are more beautiful and more ornamental. However, its care is rather troublesome, and it is also difficult for it to grow as robust as soil-grown plants.
II. Hydroponic method
First, choose a healthy, disease-free plant, then use a shovel to loosen the soil around it, and take the whole plant out. After that, it also needs to be pruned to some extent: cut off all the unhealthy, blackened and rotting parts, then disinfect it with a disinfectant and set it aside.
After that, prepare a hydroponic vessel, then place the disinfected plant into it, add some stones to fix it in place, and finally pour in some water. Note that the water should not be too much; generally, reaching 2/3 of its roots is enough.
III. Care methods
1. Temperature: The temperature around it needs to be maintained above 18°C, otherwise it will enter dormancy because of the low temperature and thus pause its growth.
2. Water quality: During care, the water quality needs to be monitored at all times, and no debris can be allowed in it, otherwise it will harm the root system.
3. Changing the water: The water needs to be changed once a month, and when changing the water, nutrients can be added as appropriate to supply what it needs for growth.
4. Light: It does not like strong light, and in normal times it needs to be kept in a place that cannot receive direct sunlight.
