Is it unlucky to keep lotus at home? Learn about these traditional beliefs
1. Does not gather wealth
After the lotus blooms, it collects dew at night, but after dawn the dew is blown away by a single gust of wind. In feng shui, water is the medium that generates wealth. If the dew accumulated overnight disappears all at once, it symbolizes losing wealth, which is the biggest taboo for people doing business, so a home with someone in business is not suitable for keeping lotus.
2. Heavy yin energy
In ancient times, after a person passed away, lotus was embroidered on their clothes, or when mourning, people were also accustomed to placing lotus flowers as offerings. For those who understand feng shui, such a flower carries too much yin energy. There is a variety of lotus called "bowl lotus", named because its small size allows it to be grown in a bowl; it is a homophone for "wreath couplet", so it is not suitable for keeping at home.
3. Sacred flower of Buddhism
The lotus is the seat of the bodhisattvas in Buddhism. Keeping this flower at home is generally more than an ordinary household can bear; it will bring bad luck to the home and affect the health of family members, so keeping lotus at home is unlucky.
4. Placement taboos
If a household insists on growing lotus, it must not be placed inside the home; it is best placed in the yard or grown outdoors. When growing it, also avoid growing particularly unlucky varieties such as bowl lotus. If it must be grown indoors, it is best placed in sunny spots such as a balcony or windowsill, which can dissolve the yin energy.
