How to care for Ranunculus after flowering? Detailed post-bloom care methods

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
First, fertilizer must be supplied in sufficient amounts to prepare for the growth that follows. Besides fertilizer, the soil should ideally also be treated by adding some humus. Next, pruning is needed: cut off the spent flowers to keep them from continuing to consume nutrients. In addition, the temperature must be kept suitable, around 15 to 20°C during the day and 7 to 8°C at night.

1. Flowering period

Generally speaking, its flowering period is from March to April. Although the flowering period varies somewhat depending on the region and variety, the difference is not too great. Its blooming can last about one month. By May and June, when the weather turns hot, most of its flowers will wither. Once its flowering period has passed, care should be given special attention.

2. How to handle it

(1) Fertilizer: First of all, of course, sufficient nutrients must be supplied. Flowering consumes a great deal of the plant's nutrients. For the sake of later growth and to prepare for next year's flowering, a moderate amount of fertilizer should be applied at this time. Generally speaking, applying a fertilizer containing phosphorus after flowering is best. However, there is no need for too much; once or twice is enough. During the subsequent growth process, a compound fertilizer should still be the main choice.

(2) Soil: To provide nutrients, you cannot rely on fertilizer alone; soil matters too. You can change the soil appropriately to increase the humus it contains.

(3) Pruning: Pruning after flowering is also very necessary. If you do not prune, the withered flowers may continue to waste nutrients and affect later growth. Just cut off the dead branches and spent flowers.

(4) Temperature: Make sure it is suitable. However, pay attention to the difference between day and night. During the day, 15 to 20°C is best. At night, 7 to 8°C is best.

(5) Water: After flowering, the weather is just turning hot, so pay attention to the water supply.
