How to propagate Persian buttercup? A detailed guide to common propagation methods

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
The main methods used to propagate Persian buttercup are seed sowing and division. For seed sowing, healthy seeds must first be harvested, cold-stratified to encourage germination, and then sown in loose, airy, fertile, slightly acidic soil. For division, the dormant tubers are dug up and broken apart into small tuberous roots that each have a bud. After disinfection, they are inserted into moist sand.

1. Seed sowing method

(1) Seed selection and treatment: To get good seeds, you must first choose a strong mother plant and then pay constant attention to its care, so that the seeds will be plump and healthy. In addition, the seeds must be treated before sowing. This is usually cold stratification to encourage germination. First wrap them in gauze and soak them in cold water for 24 hours, then place them in a refrigerator at 8 to 10 degrees to chill.

(2) Soil preparation: There are many ways to prepare the soil. The main requirements are that it be loose, airy and fertile, and also acidic.

(3) Timing: Best in autumn, around October. When the temperature is below 20 degrees.

(4) Sowing and subsequent care: Sow evenly. After sowing, keep the temperature warm and the humidity appropriate.

2. Division method

(1) Timing: Similar to the seed sowing method, from September to October.

(2) Substrate selection: Moist sand is generally used, about 5 cm deep.

(3) Tuberous root treatment: Dig up the dormant tuberous roots. Then shake off the soil and break them apart according to their growth. Each part must have one or two buds and three or four small tuberous roots. After that, disinfect them in a potassium permanganate solution. And likewise, they also need to be treated to encourage germination.

(4) Inserting into moist sand: Choose a well-ventilated, shady place, then insert the tuberous roots into the moist sand. To prevent rot, disinfect with carbendazim.

(5) Subsequent treatment: The most important thing is to keep the soil moist. After about 20 days, new roots will grow.
