A Complete Guide to Pruning the Large Money Tree

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
When pruning a large money tree, you first need to prepare pruning tools, using a dedicated pruning knife, with garden shears being the best option; then apply fertilizer to the plant, mainly a dilute nitrogen fertilizer; next, cut off the overly dense and messy branches, keeping 1 to 2 young buds; finally, provide shade and ventilation.

1. Prepare pruning tools

Before pruning, you need to prepare a dedicated pruning knife. Never use ordinary household scissors, otherwise the cut surface is likely to become infected and invite disease-causing pathogens, so garden shears are usually the best choice.

2. Apply fertilizer

Before pruning it, we need to replenish it with enough nutrients, and move it to a cool, well-ventilated place one month in advance, and then we can apply fertilizer to it. When fertilizing, liquid nitrogen fertilizer is usually the main choice, mainly to enable it to sprout new branches and buds more quickly after pruning.

3. Cut off branches and leaves

When pruning, cut off all the branches and leaves that are growing too densely or are rather messy, keeping only 1 to 2 small young buds. When pruning, you must not be soft-hearted, as this is the only way to effectively prevent the plant from continuing to grow leggy. If you see diseased branches, cut them all off too, otherwise they will continue to consume a large amount of nutrients, thereby affecting the normal uptake of other branches, so you must never be soft-hearted and leave them.

4. Shade and ventilation

When pruning it, the short-cut method is usually used, so after pruning there is no need to apply medicine to the cut surface; simply place it in a ventilated spot for care. After pruning, about 22 days later, the pruned plants will successively grow many young buds, and some will even grow a small number of leaves.
