What to Do When a Money Tree Gets Bugs? A Detailed Guide to Pest Control Methods
I. Scale insects
1. Baijiu mixed with water
If it is scale insects, you can mix baijiu and water at a ratio of 1:2, then pour it onto the potting soil. These insects are usually most active in spring when the room temperature is 7°C, so you can water once in April, then once every half month after that; you will see results after 4 consecutive times.
2. Vinegar
To control this insect, you can also dip a small cotton ball in vinegar and apply it to the damaged stems and leaves, which will kill the insects. This method is not only safe and convenient, but also effective at removing the pests, helping the damaged leaves regain their luster as quickly as possible.
3. Alcohol
Wiping the affected areas repeatedly with alcohol can effectively remove this insect, and it does so very cleanly. Even scale insects that cannot be seen with the naked eye will all be killed, and they will not come back the following year.
II. Red spider mites
If it is red spider mites, you need to spray a dedicated pesticide directly for control; when spraying, try to spray several times, otherwise it will not be effective.
III. Moth and butterfly larvae
If it is these two kinds of insects, it is even easier: just pick them off by hand.
IV. Later care
To prevent the insects from appearing again, we need to do a good job of routine care. For example, when the temperature is relatively high, reduce watering, because insects are most likely to appear in hot, humid conditions. Then place it in a low-light spot for 2 to 4 weeks, and after that move it back to a bright spot.
