This flower is born for summer; plant one pot and it becomes the most beautiful scene of the season

Which flower best represents summer? Surely you have your own answer in mind, but today the editor does not want to introduce familiar summer flowers like jasmine or pothos, but rather the Torenia (wishbone flower), whose name contains the character for "summer". As an ornamental flower with a neat, dense growth habit, rich and varied colors, and delicate, lovely form, the Torenia can be said to be born for summer. So how exactly do you grow such a beautiful and elegant flower? If you remember the following key points, you should have no problem at all!
What is the most iconic thing about summer? The answer is sunlight, and it happens that Torenia does not shy away from sunlight. As a sun-loving plant, Torenia needs to take in plenty of sunlight during its growth. Our method at home is to place the potted Torenia in the brightest area of the balcony, receiving at least 10 hours of sunlight each day, which ensures the blooms are vividly colored and healthy. Of course, during periods of intense summer sun, we still provide some shading measures. As for the other seasons, there is no need for too much concern; letting it enjoy a good sunbath is the best reward for this flower.
Torenia has low soil requirements; basically, as long as there is some drainage capacity, it will do. Apart from the muddy soil used for growing lotus, essentially any other soil mixed with large-grained river sand can be used to grow Torenia. If you are worried about fertility, you can add a little organic fertilizer or base fertilizer to the bottom of the pot before potting the plant, just be careful not to let the plant roots come into direct contact with the fertilizer. For the pot, we choose a terracotta pot with good breathability, combined with some cooling treatment so that Torenia is not constantly in a high-temperature environment during summer, which greatly helps the flower's growth.
Summer is the main blooming period for Torenia. Considering the plant's increased consumption, appropriate watering must also be continued. When watering Torenia in summer, two aspects need attention. The first is replenishing water, meaning water when dry and let dry between waterings: if you notice the soil in the pot has dried and turned white, then you can water thoroughly once. Never water when the potting soil has not dried, as this may cause oxygen deprivation inside the pot and root rot. The second is cooling: high summer temperatures are themselves a test for plants. We can use a spray bottle to sprinkle water around the Torenia pot to keep the overall ambient temperature from getting too high.
Before cultivating Torenia, we need to add some organic fertilizer to the soil as a base fertilizer, which will allow the plant to grow and develop quickly. However, Torenia does not have a large demand for fertilizer; during the growing period, fertilizing about 3 times is enough, mainly using chemical fertilizer or organic fertilizer. You can decide whether to apply additional fertilizer by observing the leaves: if the leaves are yellow and withered, then after ruling out intense sun exposure as the cause, you can fertilize. Be careful not to sprinkle fertilizer directly on the leaves; it must be diluted and evenly poured onto the potting soil!
