If you have a yard, plant some greenery - it looks nice but is not practical. Better to plant some beautiful vegetables. Sowing seeds, watering, fertilizing and harvesting with your own hands - the whole process is beautiful. The following 4 vegetables can all be planted in the ground in a courtyard. They are easy to grow and also very pretty, adding a little something to everyday life.

1. Lettuce

There are many varieties of lettuce, and the growing methods are roughly the same. If conditions allow, grow several kinds: green leaf lettuce, purple leaf lettuce, and head lettuce. It likes a cool environment, with an optimum growing temperature of 15-20°C. It has low light requirements and likes fertile, fairly moist soil.

Lettuce seedlings emerge 3-5 days after sowing. In daily care, pay attention to watering and keep thinning the seedlings.

2. Swiss chard

Swiss chard has been grown in China since very early times, especially in rural household small yards. It is harvested by repeatedly picking off leaves, and its growing cycle is very long. Swiss chard likes a cool climate, with an optimum growing temperature of around 20°C. It likes neutral, well-drained soil and plenty of water but is afraid of waterlogging.

Swiss chard can be harvested more than 40 days after sowing. Each plant usually has its outermost 2-3 leaves picked, and it can be harvested about once every 8 days, generally until summer. Swiss chard is delicious to cook, so you can give it a try.

3. Pak choi types

Among leafy vegetables, there are far too many pak choi types, including milk pak choi, small rapeseed, chicken-feather greens, and bright-leaf white. Pak choi types are widely grown in both the north and south, with many varieties, so just choose ones suited to local cultivation. Pak choi is a semi-cold-hardy vegetable, with an optimum growing temperature of 18-20°C. It likes fertile soil and a moist environment. If you want leafy vegetables to grow well, you must water little and often.

4. Cherry radish

Cherry radish is a vegetable I have really liked recently. It can be planted in all four seasons, and its growing cycle is very short. For early-spring maturing varieties, it takes only about forty days from sowing to harvest. Cherry radish is a semi-cold-hardy vegetable, with an optimum growing temperature of around 20°C, so early spring is quite suitable for planting it. It especially loves light and likes loose, fertile, well-aerated sandy loam.

If growing it at home, sowing dry seeds is enough. To stress again, after sowing any vegetable with dry seeds, keep the soil moist, and it is best to cover with plastic film. The process of the cherry radish's fleshy root swelling is especially interesting, so you can observe it closely.

If you are interested in the vegetables above, you can make some preparations. Within half a month after sowing, your small yard or balcony will be red where it should be red and green where it should be green - very beautiful.
