Aglaia odorata thrives in a warm environment with fairly humid air. One great benefit of Aglaia odorata is that it can remove some harmful gases from our homes, such as the sulfur dioxide, chlorine gas and so on that linger indoors. Growing a pot of Aglaia odorata at home naturally gives us a comfortable and healthy living environment. So how should we grow Aglaia odorata at home? And what should we pay attention to when growing it? Let me introduce them one by one below.

Our best propagation time is from April to May, using the cutting method. The growth of Aglaia odorata has certain requirements for soil; it likes to grow in loose soil rich in humus, and the soil should be fairly fertile. Do not use alkaline soil to plant Aglaia odorata; Aglaia odorata prefers to grow in a slightly acidic environment.

It is best to choose sandy soil, as this kind of soil is fairly loose, drains and breathes well, and its pH is still on the alkaline side. We should often check whether the area around the potting soil is moist; we should keep the potting soil in a moist state, because Aglaia odorata prefers a humid environment.

Aglaia odorata is naturally fond of warmth; the warmer the temperature, the more fragrant the flowers it produces. Generally, when the temperature is above 30°C and the sunlight is abundant, the Aglaia odorata is at its most fragrant. Conversely, when the temperature is below 30°C and there is not enough light, Aglaia odorata grown in a fairly shady spot will not be as fragrant, though it still has a scent, only a very faint one. The best growing temperature for Aglaia odorata is between 20 and 35°C.

Aglaia odorata has high requirements for light. It is best to place Aglaia odorata all year round in a spot that receives plenty of sunlight, such as a balcony, where it can get long hours of sunlight and also good ventilation. The daily light duration should be 8 to 12 hours; then the leaves of Aglaia odorata will be very emerald green, the branches it grows will be fairly thick and strong, and it will bloom more often and in greater numbers. The flowers are also bright yellow with a rich fragrance.

The first time Aglaia odorata is watered, it must be watered thoroughly; after about half a month we can reduce the amount of water we give it, which can effectively encourage it to grow new roots. In our usual watering, we only need to keep the potting soil moist, but we must not let the potting soil become too wet or too dry; too dry will be bad for the growth of Aglaia odorata and cause the leaves to wither. We should try to maintain an environment with fairly high air humidity.

Only in this way is it more beneficial to the growth of Aglaia odorata. In fairly hot weather and during the growing period, we should persist in misting Aglaia odorata every day, about twice is enough.
