Time passes quickly, and in the blink of an eye it is August again. Today the weather in August is still unbearably hot, the promised rain has broken its promise again and again, and it is said that even the temperature in the Arctic has reached 30°C. Today is already Start of Autumn, yet there is not the slightest sign of a drop in temperature. The weather in August is still mainly hot, stuffy and humid, and for succulents it remains a severe test. Although it is still unknown whether the temperature will drop by the end of the month, what is certain is that at least the first half of the month will still be rather tough.

But do not lose heart. August can be said to be a month that bridges what comes before and after. Succulents that make it through August will welcome a magnificent transformation and gradually reveal their most enchanting side of the year. Victory is in sight, hold on! Below, Little Exquisite Life will study together with everyone which aspects should be paid attention to during the care of succulents in August.

1. Light

The sunlight is still incredibly strong right now. Yesterday Little Exquisite Life washed the car outside for a while, and after a moment the back and arms felt a burning pain. People cannot withstand such exposure for even a moment, let alone tiny succulents. So even by the end of August, when the morning and evening temperatures have dropped, the succulents still need shade at noon. If they are seedlings or succulents that have just been potted, they need to be cared for in a diffused-light environment until they grow normally, and only then gradually return to normal light.

2. Ventilation

Speaking of ventilation, in fact it is not only in August, and there is no need to distinguish between summer-growing types and winter-growing types. Remember that always keeping the care environment ventilated is the top priority. Good ventilation can break up a stuffy, hot and humid environment and limit the occurrence and spread of disease to the greatest extent, so remember, a well-ventilated care environment must be ensured at all times.

3. Watering

For summer-growing succulents in their growth period, water according to the normal watering cycle and amount. As long as the last two layers of leaves are wrinkled and soft, you can water. What needs attention is that you absolutely must not water at noon; try to choose a clear, windy evening to water.

For other types of succulents in their dormant period, they should slowly resume growth from the latter part of the month, and the number of waterings and the amount of water need to be increased as appropriate according to the actual situation. Of course, noon must also be avoided.

4. Pests and diseases

Pests and diseases such as mealybugs and black rot are still at a high incidence in August, so preventive work absolutely must not be taken lightly. You need to observe the succulents more often at ordinary times. If mealybugs are found, deal with them promptly by hand or with medication, and note that the concentration of the pesticide must not be too high, so as to avoid chemical damage; if black rot is found, be sure to isolate it promptly and cut the head until the normal-colored part of the succulent's stem, then apply carbendazim and keep it in a ventilated, shady place for care.

5. Other

For friends who like leaf propagation or head-cutting propagation, if the temperature drops by the end of August, you can start the operation, but if the temperature still remains high, you still need to wait patiently a little longer; also, August is still rainy, so proper rain protection is also very important; in addition, after Start of Autumn, the temperature difference gradually increases, the morning and evening will be very cool, and noon is still very hot, which is exactly the time when succulents are most suited to showing their best condition.

In short, as long as succulents survive August, they will welcome the most spectacular season of the year!
