Any flower grower knows that it would be wonderful to have some good, rich soil for growing flowers! Good air permeability, good drainage, loose and not compacted - plants grow fast in this kind of soil, are not prone to root rot, have lots of green leaves, and bloom especially vigorously. Is there such soil in everyday life? Actually, there is. One soil plus four fertilizers works very well for growing flowers. Let's take a look!

"Rich soil for growing flowers"

Good soil mixing is the key to growing flowers. The peat soil that many flower growers buy at flower markets, or pre-mixed potting soil, is very good soil for growing flowers. However, peat soil is relatively scarce in China, with only the Northeast producing slightly more. The most common and best flower-growing medium in everyday life is actually leaf mold.
Leaf mold, also called humus soil, is a nutrient-rich soil formed after plant leaves and branches are decomposed and fermented by microorganisms in the soil. It is a natural nutrient soil, widely distributed and easy to collect. Where conditions allow, you can dig up leaf mold that has weathered over many years directly from the forest floor in the mountains and use it to grow flowers.
Most flowers can be grown in leaf mold. For example, spider plants, pothos, and snake plants are all suited to leaf mold. Leaf mold can increase the germination rate when sowing and raising seedlings, speed up the growth and development of seedlings, and promote plant growth. It is an ideal growing medium.
Leaf mold is light and loose, with good water permeability and air permeability, plenty of pores, and it does not compact even after long-term use. It is rich in organic matter and humic acid, and its fertility lasts a long time, promoting plant growth and development. Mixed with other soils, it can improve the soil and raise soil fertility.
However, leaf mold contains relatively many pathogens, insect eggs, and weed seeds, so it is better to sun-dry it for a few days before use.

Leaf mold has the advantage of being loose and not compacting, but if it can be slightly modified, it will be even more ideal for growing flowers. Generally, mixing some bone meal into leaf mold is best - the phosphorus and potassium fertilizers contained in bone meal are beneficial for plant root growth, flowering, and fruiting, making it the best supplement to leaf mold.
Bone meal can be made at home. Take leftover chicken and duck bones and pork rib bones, boil them in water to remove the salt, put them in a pressure cooker and cook them until soft, take them out and dry them in the sun, then crush them into small pieces. Mix into the potting soil when using.
A certain amount of granules also needs to be added to leaf mold, with charcoal and coarse sand being best. Coarse sand and charcoal granules are beneficial for potting soil drainage and can maintain the granular structure of the potting soil. After a long time, the potting soil structure will not collapse, and good drainage and air permeability can still be guaranteed.
When using, mix the three in a certain ratio. A commonly used soil mixing ratio is 7 parts leaf mold, 2 parts coarse sand, and 1 part bone meal and other organic fertilizers. This soil mix is suitable for the vast majority of flowers and can be called an all-purpose soil for growing flowers. It is simple and convenient to prepare, and the materials are cheap, making it suitable for the vast majority of flower growers. The leaf mold in it can also be partly replaced with pine needle soil, and the coarse sand can be replaced with charcoal granules, clay pellets, volcanic rock, or other granules.
Generally, the more varied the mix of flower-growing soil, the more beneficial it is for flower growth
Everyone can, on the basis of this ratio
make appropriate adjustments to suit their own environment
Overall, this soil mix is simple and efficient
and very good for growing flowers
Share it with flower growers who need it!
