They say the waves behind the Yangtze push the waves ahead, each stronger than the last, and rose care is the same. Back then we were all newbies at growing roses, and after gradually building up experience, we went from little rookies to old rookies. So, for rose beginners starting out in August, how can we avoid "detours"?

Before buying seedlings, beginners should remember to prepare pots. Some seedlings are sold with pots, but some come in just a plastic box. If you wait until you have already bought them to prepare pots, it will be a bit rushed, so it is better to prepare them in advance.

1. Pots and soil

For small seedlings, 1 gallon is very suitable. If it is a climbing variety, you can directly repot it into a 2-gallon pot for care. Note: the larger the pot used, the harder it is to manage moisture. Generally, it is recommended to repot into a pot one size larger than the original. If it is a nutrient-pot seedling with a relatively weak root system, it is best to first repot it into a small pot to grow roots, and once the roots are well developed, repot again.

There is no need to worry too much about soil, because for beginners, mixing soil is still somewhat difficult, and if it is not mixed well, it is very easy to fail all at once. Especially for beginners, the first growing experience is very important. If it feels bad and is very frustrating, it will be hard to keep going afterward. So in order to leave yourself a pleasant beginning, do not try it lightly. You can buy pre-mixed soil and use that first, and once you are more confident, then test the waters yourself.

2. Pest and disease prevention

Since most beginners do not really understand prevention in advance, the probability of various pests and diseases is still quite high. If you are worried, you can prepare a medication kit in advance for emergencies. However, the longest-lasting solution is still to learn in advance: read more articles on preventing pests and diseases, how to identify diseases, how to use physical methods to control them after they occur, and how to use medication as a last resort. These are all things beginners need to understand in advance.

There is a lot of content and the workload is heavy, so reading it all at once is not easy to digest. You can save it for later, first read the knowledge on how to prevent problems, and then according to your specific growing situation, "recharge" later. Also, with real examples, it will be much faster to get the hang of it.

3. Choosing seedlings

When choosing seedlings, most people use online shopping, and this is often when the struggle begins. There are so many seedlings, and they all look good. What to do? For a moment there is no way to start, right? Beginners should not be greedy when buying seedlings. Be sure to first look at your own environment, for example whether it is container growing or in-ground growing. At the beginning, just choose classic varieties, choose ones with good disease resistance, strong vitality, and most importantly, easy to grow.

Other difficult rose varieties can be put off for later, and you can challenge them once you have built yourself up. Likewise, related questions about these rose varieties also need to be understood in advance by yourself. Figure out which type you need, so that when choosing seedlings you can be precise and avoid groping around in the dark.

Also, for beginners buying online, after getting seedlings you can first learn about some reliable rose shops. The best way is to ask other flower friends; exchanging ideas with each other can teach you a lot. When choosing a shop, do not just go for cheap. There are many shops in Suqian, but among them there are also quite a few unreliable ones with poor seedling condition.

Beginners should not worry when starting out. Everyone has come this way. Once you have seen enough, you will naturally understand. If there is anything unclear, ask more and learn more from those with experience. If we can take the straight road, then let's avoid the detours. We can always get through it!
