Pothos, with its leaves being glossy green all year round, is a very attractive foliage plant. It is also because its leaves turn yellow very easily, and as you grow it, it becomes a "yellow-faced hag," which is a problem that flower enthusiasts find quite distressing. In fact, yellow leaves on pothos are caused by a number of factors, and flower enthusiasts need to clearly understand them and handle them properly.

1. Leaves turn yellow and drop off

If, while caring for pothos, flower enthusiasts find that the leaves are not only yellow but also drop off easily, and the stems have rotted, then this is the cause to look for: overwatering.

Especially in winter, when the air is dry, flower enthusiasts worry that the pothos is not getting enough water, so they water heavily, and combined with the cold outdoors and the fact that indoors everything is closed up to keep out the cold, the pothos very easily runs into problems. In addition, pothos needs potting soil with good drainage and must not have standing water in the pot. When this situation is found, the only solution for flower enthusiasts is: repot promptly.

2. Leaf tips curl and turn withered brown

If the leaves of the pothos show curled and withered leaf tips, it is mainly caused by factors such as the air being too dry and insufficient ventilation. At this time, flower enthusiasts should frequently use a spray bottle with an even spray to mist the leaf surface.

2. Leaf margins turn brown and spots appear

In addition, the reasons for pothos leaf margins turning brown and withered yellow spots appearing on the leaves are: insufficient watering during the growing season. When flower enthusiasts grow pothos, especially in summer, the potting soil should not wait until it is completely dry before watering; it is only when the surface of the potting soil has dried while the soil inside is still not too dry that this has no effect on the roots. For totem pole plants, attention should be paid to wetting the pole when watering, because some roots grow on the pole.

3. Leaves become soft and curled, stems rot

If pothos shows this problem, it should be caused by the temperature being too low. Pothos is very sensitive to low temperatures below 10°C. A certain temperature must be maintained to promote the growth of pothos.

4. Reasons for leaves becoming smaller

Many flower enthusiasts grow pothos and the leaves stay very small; neither fertilizing nor watering helps. In fact, when pothos is grown as a totem pole, the growing tip must always be kept growing upward; as long as it bends downward, combined with untimely fertilizing, the leaves will gradually become smaller. Fertilizer and light are also contributing factors, and flower enthusiasts need to promptly supplement pothos with a special liquid fertilizer to promote nutrient absorption by the pothos leaves.

In addition, when caring for pothos, the following care points should also be noted:

Temperature: Pothos likes a warm environment; the minimum wintering temperature is 10-13°C, and for silver pothos (Scindapsus pictus) 16°C.

Light: Pothos likes a semi-shaded environment and can grow well in a relatively bright room; excellent variegated varieties easily die under weak light conditions.

Water: In spring, summer and autumn, there must be sufficient moisture in the soil; water when the surface 1-2 cm of the potting soil has dried, and in winter when the temperature is low, watering should be reduced. In addition, pothos likes high temperature and high humidity, and the leaf surface needs to be misted frequently. Adding an appropriate amount of ferrous sulfate to the misting water or watering water can very well prevent the yellow leaf problem.
