My sister-in-law came to stay at our home for a while and never once ate at the table; after I brought her meal to her, my husband sent her away
Eating at the same table every day, and yet what ends up in your mouth can actually be different - have you ever experienced such a thing? I am not exaggerating in the slightest; this is the real situation I encountered. Before, I had never even imagined that my marriage would turn out like this, and the person capable of doing something so outrageous to me is my mother-in-law.
Because my own family's circumstances were not very good, even though my mother-in-law is only from a small county town, she was still very dissatisfied with me for coming from a rural background. In her view, her son, whom she had worked hard to raise through university and who now works in the provincial capital, could definitely have found a better match and did not need to settle for me. But although I come from the countryside, I was my husband's university classmate, my grades were no worse than his, my job is quite stable, and our relationship is very good - I have no idea why she looked down on me so much. In the end, because my husband insisted, she had no choice but to agree to our marriage.
At the time, she used the excuse that bride price was just a formality and did not give my family a single cent. My family's situation was already not great - I have a younger brother who is also unmarried - so they had no way to prepare a dowry for me either. This made her even more dissatisfied, and she would constantly tell her relatives that my husband must have been blind to marry a woman who could help him neither in his career nor with family matters, saying that not only would he suffer in the future, but it would bring no benefit to her family whatsoever. Her relatives, on the other hand, were more reasonable than she was, saying that as long as young people today love each other, that is enough, and everything else is secondary. Besides, she had not paid any money either, so she had not lost anything. After hearing this, she refused to accept it and, in a fit of anger, fell out with them, meaning that raising children had not been easy for her, and if she got nothing in return, it would all have been for nothing. The others had nothing to say to her, but privately they also felt she was difficult to deal with.
For the first few years we kept working hard to save money, and finally last year we made a down payment and bought an apartment, which put an end to our days of renting. Two months ago this year, after I discovered I was pregnant, my husband was very happy, and we both sighed with feeling that only now did we truly have a complete little family. Because my health was not very good, my husband was worried, and since his business was doing very well at the time, he asked me to quit my job and rest at home to protect the pregnancy, and also asked my mother-in-law to come and take care of me.
But ever since she came to the house, whenever my husband was not home, she would only cook green vegetables. I complained to her, saying this would affect the baby's health. But she said I had no job and was spending all my husband's money, so she was saving for us, and besides, she ate the same as I did and was not giving herself special treatment. After hearing this, although I was very angry, for the sake of harmony at home, I could only endure it silently and never complained to my husband. My sister-in-law is now on summer vacation and came to stay at our home a while ago, but every time she ate in her room and never came to the table. I did not think much of it, assuming she was playing on the computer or something. I called her a few times and she did not move, and my mother-in-law said to leave her alone, so I did not bother.
But once, when my mother-in-law asked me to bring her meal to her room, I accidentally picked up my own bowl. I did not pay attention at the time, but before long, my sister-in-law ran out and flew into a rage at my mother-in-law, complaining about why there was no meat today. After I uncovered the bowl left on the table, I discovered that although the green vegetables on top were the same as mine, what lay at the bottom of the bowl was completely different - all the fish and meat were underneath. Only then did I realize that what my sister-in-law and mother-in-law ate was different from what I ate. I was very angry and sad, and at the time I could not help sitting on the sofa crying nonstop. My husband happened to come home from work right then, and after learning what had happened he was furious. He comforted me, saying he would not let me suffer any injustice, and immediately sent my mother-in-law and sister-in-law back to their hometown. After they left, my husband told me to bring my own mother over, and from then on she would take care of me, and he also apologized to me. I feel very fortunate that although my mother-in-law does not like me, I still have a husband who loves me dearly. Do you all agree?
