Geranium Cutting Propagation Methods and Technical Key Points
1. Choosing the cuttings
First, choose healthy stems and select stems with about 3 leaf nodes at the top. When cutting the cuttings, cut at an angle about 0.4 cm away from the previous leaf node, and keep the cut surface smooth. Then cut off the leaves on the second node below together with their petioles, but leave 2 small leaves at the top.
2. Treating the cuttings
After the cuttings are cut, they should be placed in a cool, shaded place to dry for 2 hours before they can be planted.
3. Choosing the growing medium
Before planting, prepare the cutting medium first, with fine yellow sand being the best. When placing it, put some rice-grain-sized sand in the lower part of the pot to help water flow through, then put a thicker layer of fine sand on top of the pot to help with drainage.
4. Planting the cuttings
Choose the right time for planting, usually May in spring and October in autumn being the best. Then, before planting, water the medium thoroughly, next dig a hole in it with a depth reaching the height of the lower two nodes of the cutting, at this point insert the cutting, and then firm it down with a tool.
5. Suitable light
After planting, do not let direct sunlight hit them for the first half month. After that, they can be moved to a spot with half shade and half sun for care, but the light duration should not be too long, so that they can grow better.
6. Reasonable watering
After watering it thoroughly the first time, normally you only need to spray a suitable amount of water with a spray bottle. Do not let the soil become too wet; this way, its survival rate will be improved.
