In what season do lilies usually bloom?

Lilies usually bloom from July to October each year, but if they are not cared for well, the flowering period will be shortened and even the number of blooms will be affected. Now, with advances in cultivation techniques, the blooming time can be controlled artificially; for example, they can be made to bloom from November to December or from January to February.

1. The season in which it blooms

Lilies like to grow in a humid environment and need plenty of sunlight. If they can be given suitable growing conditions, then July to October each year is their blooming season, but if they are not cared for well, their flowering period will be shortened and even the number of blooms will be affected, so special attention must be paid during routine care.

2. Artificially adjusting the blooming season

With advances in cultivation techniques, the blooming season can now be artificially adjusted to November to December, or January to February. The specific methods are as follows:

1. When artificially controlling its blooming time, always pay attention to the flower buds. When the flower buds grow to 1 to 2 cm high, if there is not enough light at this time, it is very easy for bud abortion to occur.

2. Usually from the end of October to March of the following year, it is prone to bud abortion. At this time, artificial lighting can be used to supplement light, that is, prepare an ordinary waterproof incandescent lamp and give it extra light before the flower buds grow to 0.5 to 1 cm, continuing until harvest. Then, when the temperature is 16°C, the light duration can be maintained for 6 weeks, every day from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., which can effectively prevent bud abortion and early blooming.

3. To improve flower quality, light and temperature in the later stage are also very important. When the flower buds are in the differentiation and development stages, the daytime temperature can be controlled at 21 to 23°C, and the nighttime temperature at 15 to 17°C. In addition, if you want it to bloom from November to December, you can store the bulbs at 13°C for 2 weeks in advance, and then place them at 3°C for 4 to 5 weeks; if you want it to bloom from January to February, you can first place it at 13°C for 2 weeks, and then place it at 8°C for 4 to 5 weeks.
