What to do if your cactus isn't growing thick? A flower farmer teaches you a few practical methods

Why isn't your cactus growing thick?
Actually, there are many reasons for this. First of all, cacti grown in the ground are thicker than those grown in pots. Ground-planted cacti have broader root systems, a larger spreading area, and more developed roots, and the water and nutrients they receive in the ground are more complete, which potted plants cannot achieve. A pot has only a tiny bit of soil, nutrients are more likely to run short, and root spread is limited by the pot, so it definitely cannot grow as well as a ground-planted cactus.
Cacti originally grew in relatively arid places where air humidity is very low. Because of long periods of drought, cacti can absorb the maximum amount of water after each watering to resist drought. Now household potted cacti no longer have this kind of environment, so if you want them to grow relatively thick, the only way is to create the illusion of drought through water control, thereby making the cactus a bit thicker. But air humidity is hard to change, so reaching that kind of thickness is no longer possible under current conditions.
Another reason is light. At first, cacti are not afraid of sun exposure. Light can make cacti more robust and sturdy, but it can also make them lose more water and make the soil moisture dry out quickly, because cacti are very afraid of too much water. Household cacti do not have the resistance of wild cacti. Indoor-grown cacti taken outside rashly are very easily sunburned. From indoors to outdoors, especially with this light, there must be a gradual process so that the cactus can slowly accept the baptism of light and become thick and sturdy.
For cacti kept at home, be sure not to let them grow leggy. Each watering should be done only after the soil has dried out completely, and then water thoroughly. This ensures the cactus will not rot at the roots, and it can also take in enough water each time, making it thicker than ordinary cacti. Fertilizing does not require especially good fertilizer; one liquid fertilizing per month can meet basic growth needs. How thick a cactus can grow still depends on the environment it is in.
