After my husband passed away, my mother-in-law helped me take care of the child. I took leave and went home, and when I saw the figure at the dining table, I covered my face and cried.

I never thought that one day I would be loved so deeply by someone with no blood relation to me. She made me feel the warmth of family love and understand how precious family is to me. That person is my mother-in-law. She treats me even better than a biological daughter would, always taking careful care of me, sometimes even neglecting herself. She is like a ray of sunshine, always warming me.

I was an orphan from childhood. When I finally grew up and went out to work, I met my husband. He came from a single-parent family, but he lived very sunnily. He always said my mother-in-law had given him all her love and had never let him feel like a child lacking love. Not long after we got together, he took me back to meet the parents. His mother was a very kind person and was very satisfied with me.

After we got married, we lived very happily. Considering that my mother-in-law lived alone and was too lonely, we brought her over to live with us. My mother-in-law was also very satisfied with me. When we went to work, she would even help us do housework. Not long after marriage, I got pregnant and gave birth to a son. My husband and mother-in-law treated me even better. I thought heaven must have been compensating me for what it had owed me before, letting me now have such a happy life.

But good times did not last. While I was still immersed in a happy life, heaven once again took away my happiness. Without any warning, the news of my husband's car accident came just like that. One second before I answered the phone, I was still thinking that in a few days it would be my husband's birthday and wondering what kind of surprise I should prepare for him. But I never expected that it would be a call that would break my heart. I rushed to the hospital, but still did not get to see my husband one last time. In that moment, I really wanted to just collapse. My world was all gray. But seeing my son still in swaddling clothes and my mother-in-law already over fifty, I knew I could not collapse. I held back my grief and finished handling my husband's affairs. Before I had time to adjust my mindset, I threw myself into work.

The heavy burden of the family fell entirely on me. I did not have much time to take care of my son, so I handed him over to my mother-in-law. My mother-in-law never complained to me. She not only helped me take care of my son, but also always took very good care of me. Every time I came back from work at night, she would make me a table full of rich dinner. Sometimes I felt there was no need to waste money like that, but she said I worked hard and should nourish myself more. I could not argue with her, and I was very tired from work every day, so I did not say anything more. The day before yesterday at noon, I felt unwell and took leave to go home. But as soon as I walked in and saw that figure at the dining table, I covered my face and cried. My mother-in-law was eating lunch. Seeing me suddenly come back, she was clearly startled. When I saw the dishes on the table, a sour feeling rushed up in my heart. How were those dishes? They were clearly vegetable leaves that vegetable vendors had thrown away. I asked her why she was eating only this. She evasively said these were cheap, and anyway, as long as her stomach was full, it did not matter what she ate. I could not hold back the tears in my eyes. It turned out my mother-in-law had sacrificed so much for me. It turned out she had always been giving me the best while silently enduring that bitterness herself. It turned out family love is so warm that it can cross blood relations. In that moment, I resolved that I must work hard, for the people who love me and the people I love. Everyone, do you agree?
