Cacti are very easy to grow and are ideal plants for lazy gardeners. Cacti tolerate drought and light, but they do not tolerate waterlogging or cold. Therefore, when problems of poor growth occur in general cactus care, such as root rot, it is mostly caused by overwatering or temperatures that are too low.

Cacti are not only plants that are very tolerant of drought and light, but also very tolerant of poor soil. As long as they are given a bit of soil, they can survive very well on their own. Conversely, improper fertilizing can also very easily cause fertilizer burn and lead to rot. So how do you remedy the situation when a cactus develops root rot? Today Huar Gu will introduce it to everyone!

I. Remedies for cactus root rot

When the cactus we are growing develops root rot, we need to dig it out of the soil, cut off the roots that have already rotted, and then place it in a cool, ventilated place to dry the wounds. After the wounds have healed, we replant it in fresh potting soil. After that, care must avoid overwatering; it is better to let it be a bit dry than to have a problem with water accumulation. For regular fertilizing, use light fertilizer, and at least half a month must pass before fertilizing again. Generally, it is not recommended to fertilize much; for cacti it is not very necessary.

II. How to prevent cactus root rot

1. Control watering

Controlling watering includes controlling the amount of water to prevent water accumulation, and also controlling the frequency of watering to avoid watering too often and making the potting soil too moist. Both of these situations will cause the cactus roots to take in too much water and rot.

2. Fertilize in the right amount

For fertilizing, generally do not use heavy fertilizer. Each time, it is best to dilute a thin liquid fertilizer with water and pour it on. If using homemade liquid fertilizer, it must be fully decomposed before use. Pouring rice-washing water that has not been fully fermented tends to rot and ferment in the flowerpot, generating heat, which can easily cause root rot.

3. Control temperature

The problem of low temperatures generally appears in winter. Low temperatures can easily cause cold damage to cacti, and cold damage will lead to rot in cacti. Therefore, in winter we need to appropriately keep the temperature above 5°C. Avoid leaving cacti outdoors in frosty environments, and pay attention to cold protection, warmth, and frost prevention.

The above is the remedy for cactus root rot and the tips for preventing cactus root rot introduced to you by Huar Gu. If you also have your own unique experience growing cacti, you are welcome to leave a message so we can learn together and make progress together!
