Compared with other flowers, camellias have poorer adaptability, especially newly bought ones, which drop leaves and buds at the slightest provocation. So how can you grow camellias well? Today, Chengcheng will share his successful experience in caring for camellias with everyone.

First, purchasing

To grow camellias well, it is best to buy small seedlings in spring. Plants, like people, have adaptability. The hardest times for camellias in the north are summer and winter. If you buy one home and grow it from spring to winter, and it can bloom one or two flowers by winter, then you have basically succeeded, and it will be very easy to grow from then on.

Second, soil

When you buy a camellia, it is best to fill it with the same soil that came with the original pot. If you do not have the same kind, then use something similar. If the original pot has red soil, use garden soil + river sand + a small amount of pine needles for the new soil. That is what similar means.

The biggest taboo is this: the original pot contains clay soil, but the new soil used is a nutrient soil with very good drainage. These two soils have different drainage, and if you plant it this way, it definitely will not grow well.

Third, watering

If it is red soil, sandy soil, or garden soil, then ordinarily, as soon as the surface layer of the potting soil becomes dry and hard, water it promptly. If it is nutrient soil, depending on the size of the pot, dig down 3-5 cm along the edge of the pot. If the potting soil is dry, then you can water it.

Fourth, fertilizing

Growing season: first sprinkle some granular compound fertilizer on the surface layer of the potting soil, and whenever it has completely dissolved, replenish it once. Then, starting in June each year, use monopotassium phosphate once every 10 days. Moreover, camellias like acidic soil, so also give them ferrous sulfate once a month.

Fifth, light

Camellias like light and fear scorching sun, but summer is also the time when camellias grow flower buds, and not getting sun will affect their bud growth.

So in summer, if growing them outdoors, only let them get a little sun in the early morning and evening when the light is not strong, and make sure they get plenty of light the rest of the time. If growing them indoors, give them sun in all four seasons.

In short, camellias are not as hard to grow as we imagine. Once they get through the adaptation period, there is no difference between growing them and growing ordinary flowers.
