More and more friends like growing flowers these days, and in the process of growing flowers, we have also picked up some knowledge and skills about flower cultivation. For example, using rice water to feed plants, or using homemade cake fertilizer water to feed plants. Or using kitchen waste to make your own flower fertilizer. Growing flowers is like this: if you care for them with attention, they will reward you with luxuriant branches and leaves and big, vivid blooms; if you often neglect them, your plants will either die or be damaged. Simply put, growing flowers requires heart.

In fact, in the process of growing flowers, no matter which kind of flowering plant it is, much of the care knowledge is interconnected. The principles of care are all the same. For example, when we water, most of the time we should water when dry and let it dry when wet. That is, let the potting soil alternate between dry and wet, not always wet and not always dry.

As for fertilizing, most of the time you should apply thin fertilizer frequently, and not apply concentrated fertilizer, so as to avoid burning the roots. Today I will share some knowledge about fertilizing. In fact, there are several times when you must not fertilize, otherwise the potted plant can easily be burned to death.

1. Do not fertilize during the flowering period

During the flowering period, the fertility and nutrients are all going to flower growth. If we fertilize at this time, its nutrients will be excessive, and it will produce side buds. The growth of these side buds will compete with the flowers for nutrients, causing bud drop. Therefore, you must not fertilize while it is flowering.

Before flowering, during bud formation, we use phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote flower bud differentiation and let it bloom more. After flowering, cut off the spent flowers, and we apply a multi-element fertilizer to replenish the nutrients consumed by flowering.

2. During the dormancy period of the flower, do not fertilize.

In summer, when the temperature is too high, many flowers, such as succulents and Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera), enter a dormant or semi-dormant state. At this time, do not fertilize them. We should control water and fertilizer.

Keep the soil in a slightly moist state, then place it in a ventilated spot with scattered light and let it quietly pass through the dormancy period. After the weather turns cool, we can then water and fertilize normally. If you fertilize at this time, because the plant grows slowly and needs less water and fertilizer, fertilizing now can easily burn the flower.

3. Do not fertilize newly planted flowers.

For newly potted flowers, the roots generally suffer some damage. If the wounds come into contact with fertilizer, it can easily burn the flower. Moreover, the newly changed soil already contains certain nutrients, so within a month, do not fertilize it.

4. Do not fertilize when the temperature is too low

If it is winter and the temperature is too low, many flowers grow slowly. At this time, watering must be controlled for the flowers. Some drought-tolerant flowers will not die even if not watered for several months. Stop fertilizing. Fertilizing at this time is sending the flower to its death. Wait until the weather is warm and normal growth resumes, and then fertilize.
