The "2018 New Taipei City Sanxia Indigo Dyeing Festival," co-organized by the New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Department and the Sanxia District Office, recently made a grand debut at the plaza in front of Sanxia Zushi Temple! Mayor Eric Chu also attended to experience cloth dyeing and rubbing, and lit the indigo dyeing lamp stand, kicking off the series of events.
Mayor Eric Chu said that indigo dyeing was traditionally a Hakka craft and an important industry in the Sanxia area in earlier years, and has now become a very precious local cultural asset. He mentioned that the Sanxia Indigo Dyeing Festival is now in its 17th year and is grander and more exciting each year. In addition to continuing to make indigo dyeing branded, localized and part of daily life, this year it further combines the creativity of artists by carving Sanxia's local characteristics onto wooden boards, bringing indigo dyeing even closer together with art.
The event is held at the plaza in front of Sanxia Zushi Temple, and many local Sanxia groups also took part in performances, including dance, saxophone performances, huqin performances and singing; on site, 7 teams from local communities and associations also performed in a street parade stage show, showcasing the vitality of the indigo dyeing festival.
The organizers said that this year's indigo dyeing festival also features several eye-catching activities. First, a special "Indigo Dyeing" exhibition is planned at the Sanxia History and Cultural Relics Museum, widely inviting creators from indigo dyeing workshops in various places to exhibit, promoting indigo dyeing craftsmanship as part of daily life. The exhibition runs until August 5. In addition, in cooperation with Ganle Cultural and Creative, a "Sanxia Artisan Mini Tour" is being held, with 6 sessions and 160 places available from now until August 20, paired with local artisans to plan novel one-day itineraries. There are also activities such as the "Indigo Dyeing DIY Experience" with a limited NT$100 discount and a free indigo dyeing puzzle for spending over a certain amount.
