Right now is the hottest time of the year. At times like this, don't you just want to stay home and not go out? Well then, this is the perfect moment, so hurry up and plant a pot of flowers. No, no, not that kind of flower arranging, but planting a pot of gardenia, jasmine or kalanchoe so that it is covered in blooms when it flowers. It is a potted plant, not flower arranging, do you understand?

What, the more I talk the more confusing it gets. Actually, it is cuttings, taking cuttings of a potted flower. Right now is just the right time, the air is humid and muggy, and whatever you take cuttings of will take root. And today I am sharing a little cutting method: once planted, roots and leaves shoot up together and grow especially fast. Today's topic is: gardenia, jasmine and kalanchoe, drink a sip of this water while it is "hot" and they will take root as soon as they are planted, with roots and leaves shooting up together!

I hope you like it!

So what exactly is this water we give them to drink?

Don't worry, it is actually willow branch water!

How do you make it?

Just break off willow branches, preferably ones grown in the current year, take them home and cut them into sections. It is best to also smash their outer bark open, then soak them in a basin of water for more than 10 hours, and you will get the best rooting water. Put the gardenia, jasmine and kalanchoe into the willow branch water and soak them for about 30 minutes, then take them out. Once they are dry, you can plant the cuttings. Gardenia, jasmine and kalanchoe soaked in willow water root extremely fast, and they grow leaves quickly too.

Why do cuttings root so fast in willow branch water? This is mainly because willow branches are a plant that roots quickly, grows leaves quickly and is easy to keep alive. This is mainly because they contain a large amount of salicylic acid, which is a plant growth hormone that can promote rooting and sprouting. They also contain a certain amount of aspirin, which has a preservative effect, so we make use of this property of willow branch sap and extract its juice to make rooting water.

Now let's talk in more detail about taking cuttings of these three flowers

1. Gardenia

Around August is exactly the time to prune gardenias. Gardeners can cut two-year-old gardenia branches, soak them briefly in our homemade rooting water, let them dry and then plant the cuttings

For the growing medium, it is best to use leaf mold with a little coarse sand and garden soil. This kind of soil has good air permeability and is acidic, which gardenias especially love. After planting the cuttings, water them thoroughly and put them in a cool, ventilated place. At the current temperature and humidity, they generally take root in about 20 days, and after 30 days new leaves will grow. The survival rate is almost 100 percent.

2. Jasmine

The branches used for jasmine cuttings are exactly the opposite of those for gardenia: choose new growth from the current year, and branches pruned off after flowering will do. After drying, put them into our homemade willow branch rooting water, soak for about 20 minutes, take them out and let them dry until needed.

For the growing medium, it is recommended to use well-drained leaf mold with coarse sand. This kind of soil is acidic and has good air permeability, which is just right for jasmine. After inserting the cuttings, water them thoroughly. For the first half month they must not be exposed to sunlight; put them in a cool, ventilated place and mist them often. In about 30 days they will take root and grow leaves.

3. Kalanchoe

For kalanchoe cuttings, any healthy branch free of pests and diseases will do. Usually branches pruned after flowering are fine. It is recommended that the branches be 5-6 cm long. Also first put them in the willow branch rooting water to soak for 20 minutes, then let them dry before planting the cuttings

For the growing medium, sandy leaf mold is also recommended. After inserting the cuttings, water them thoroughly, put them in a cool, ventilated place and mist them often. At the current temperature they will take root in about 15 days, and in about 25 days they will grow new shoots.

Gardeners, have you learned it?
