Summer really is the perfect season for growing jasmine. Keep a pot at home, and every time it blooms, the fragrance lasts for days. Not only is the whole house filled with its scent, it seems even your clothes pick up the fragrance of jasmine. So, why not take advantage of summer and grow a pot of jasmine right away!

Grow jasmine like this in summer, and it will bloom non-stop!

1. Plenty of sunlight

They say jasmine can't be killed by sun. Only with plenty of sunlight can jasmine grow vigorously and bloom abundantly. So if you grow jasmine at home, be sure to place it on a south-facing balcony or terrace with ample light. If you have the conditions, putting it in the yard is best.

2. Water frequently

Summer weather is hot and water evaporates quickly, so your jasmine at home must be watered frequently. As long as the potting soil is loose and breathable, you can water 1-2 times a day. You can also spray water on the leaves in the morning and evening to ensure sufficient air humidity.

3. Add some fertilizer

If you want jasmine to bloom multiple times, you must replenish nutrients. During the vigorous growth period of jasmine, you can add more nitrogen fertilizer, such as compound fertilizer or chicken manure fertilizer. Before jasmine blooms, switch to phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, such as fruit peel fertilizer. You can also spray a 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution on the leaves to help jasmine bloom more.

4. Slightly acidic soil

Jasmine prefers acidic soil, so when preparing the soil, besides being loose and breathable, you must ensure it is slightly acidic. You can mix worm castings, river sand, perlite, coconut coir, etc. together. This is not only permeable and breathable but also adds fertilizer, preventing water from accumulating in the pot so your jasmine grows more and more vigorously!

Prune jasmine like this, and it will bloom as many times as you want!

If you want jasmine to bloom more, pruning is an essential step!

1. Routine pruning

As jasmine grows continuously, branches often become messy or even leggy. If your jasmine shows this, prune it promptly to avoid unnecessary nutrient consumption and help it grow more vigorously!

2. Pruning after blooming

After jasmine blooms, you must prune it promptly to avoid nutrient consumption and let it produce a second round of flowers as soon as possible. When pruning jasmine, generally cut from 2-3 pairs of leaves below the spent flowers, cutting off the spent flowers together with the leaves.

Propagate jasmine branches like this, and 1 pot instantly becomes 10 pots!

Whether from routine pruning or post-bloom pruning, don't just throw away those cut branches. They're perfect for cuttings, and you'll instantly turn 1 pot into 10 pots in no time!

How to do it?

1. The cut jasmine branches need to be trimmed again. Keep 2 leaves on each branch, and it's best to cut the bottom end at a 45° angle, then let the wounds dry in a cool place.

2. If you want to root them directly in soil, prepare perlite, vermiculite or other loose, breathable nutrient soil. Insert the jasmine branches with dried wounds directly into the soil, water thoroughly, and place them in a well-ventilated spot with plenty of indirect light.

3. If you prefer water propagation, simply place the trimmed jasmine branches into a bottle filled with water, letting the bottom end of the branches just barely touch the water surface, then place it in a well-ventilated spot indoors.

4. Summer weather is hot, so it basically takes only 15-20 days for the jasmine cuttings to root. Prepare well-draining, breathable soil, transplant the rooted jasmine into it, and you'll instantly have several new jasmine plants!

Why does jasmine keep getting yellow leaves? The reasons are all here!

Reason one for yellow jasmine leaves: alkaline soil

Jasmine prefers acidic soil. If your soil is alkaline for a long time, especially for growers in the north, it's more likely to cause yellow leaves on jasmine.

Solution:

If your jasmine has yellow leaves caused by alkaline soil, when watering, you can mix in some salt-free vinegar, or citric acid or ferrous sulfate solution into the potting soil. Use it about once every 1-2 weeks, and it will solve the alkaline soil problem.

Reason two for yellow jasmine leaves: waterlogged roots

Although jasmine likes water, you can't keep watering it constantly. If you water too much and cause water to accumulate in the pot, over time the jasmine will definitely get yellow leaves, and it may even cause root rot and death!

Solution:

If you've overwatered your jasmine, quickly place it in a well-ventilated spot so the water in the pot can evaporate as soon as possible. At the same time, use a small stick to loosen the soil slightly to prevent it from compacting. If the waterlogging is especially severe, you'll have to change the soil.

Reason three for yellow jasmine leaves: pests and diseases

Summer temperatures are high, and combined with poor ventilation, jasmine is very prone to pests and diseases, especially spider mites and aphids. Once infected, jasmine leaves will turn yellow and then gradually drop off.

Solution:

If you find pests on your jasmine, you can rinse the leaves with clean water every morning and evening, or light a mosquito coil next to the jasmine pot, then find a large plastic bag and cover both the mosquito coil and the jasmine together. If you find all this too troublesome, just soak some tobacco in water and use it directly to kill the pests. The results are great either way!

That's all for today's introduction!
