Growing flowers is of course for enjoying the blooms, but flowers cannot bloom all year round, and for most of the time you can only admire the leaves
Today I will introduce three kinds of flowers. These flowers can bloom for more than half a year at a time, and they are especially easy to grow, requiring hardly any effort. Come and learn about them quickly!
- Lisianthus -
Lisianthus, also known as prairie gentian, is native to the limestone areas between the southern United States and Mexico. Modern lisianthus cultivation flourished in Japan. Commercial cultivation began in the 1960s of the 21st century.
Lisianthus has elegant and bright flower colors and unique, lovely flower shapes, and is one of the most popular potted flowers and cut flowers internationally. Lisianthus blooms from May to July, and a single flower can bloom for around 20 days. It is especially beautiful.
After sowing lisianthus, wait until the flowering period ends, then cut off the main stem, and new branches will grow from the roots. This way it will bloom again on the new branches, and one plant can turn into a clump of flowers. You can cut them and put them in a vase; they are especially beautiful.
It likes a warm, humid environment with plenty of sunlight. It is relatively drought-tolerant and not tolerant of waterlogging. The suitable growing temperature is 15-28°C, and the nighttime temperature must not be lower than 12°C. If the winter temperature is below 5°C, the leaf rosette becomes rosette-shaped and cannot bloom. If the temperature exceeds 30°C, the flowering period is noticeably shortened. It has strict water requirements; it likes moisture, but too much water is also bad for root growth.
- Zinnia -
Zinnia is a type of plant in the Asteraceae family. Its petals have diverse layers and bright colors, and there are many varieties, including single-petaled, double-petaled, curled-leaf, wrinkled-leaf, and garden varieties in various different colors.
Its first flower blooms at the top, and then the flowers at the tips of the side branches bloom higher than the first one, so it is also called "step by step higher." Zinnia blooms from June to September, and a single flower can bloom for more than 20 days. It is very beautiful and deeply loved by flower enthusiasts.
Zinnia is generally propagated by sowing. After the seedlings grow 4 leaves, you can start pinching the tips to promote a shorter plant, increase side branches, and increase the number of flowers. Choose loose, breathable potting soil, and water by letting the soil dry before watering again, not all at once. Place it in a location with sufficient light for care. The suitable growing temperature is 15-30°C.
Zinnia is an annual herbaceous plant. You can wait until the seeds mature, then collect the seeds well. They can be stored for 3 years, with a germination rate of 60%. Sow again the next year, and the following year there will be another sea of flowers.
- Gloxinia -
Gloxinia is also called "falling snow mud." Its leaves are verdant and lush, its flowers are large, and its colors are bright and rich, including red, white, purple-blue, pink, and so on. Its flowering period lasts up to 7 months, and each plant can produce dozens of flowers. It is an excellent indoor flower. Moreover, gloxinia has very low light requirements, making it a very good indoor flowering plant. A single flower will not fade for more than 20 days and is especially beautiful.
For gloxinia, choose loose, fertile humus soil. It likes a warm and humid environment. Normally, water by letting the soil dry before watering again, and water in appropriate amounts without water accumulation, as too much can easily cause tuber rot and yellowing leaves. Gloxinia leaves have fine hairs, so you can water using the immersion method to prevent water from getting on the leaves and causing leaf rot.
The suitable growing temperature for gloxinia is 18-25°C. Its heat and cold tolerance are not very good. In winter, pay attention to keeping it warm, and in summer, pay attention to ventilation and cooling. If the summer temperature exceeds 30°C or the winter temperature is below 5°C, it will enter semi-dormancy. In this case, you can let the potting soil be appropriately drier to help it get through the dormancy period.
Gloxinia does not have high light requirements. It is fine to care for it in an environment with scattered light. It is relatively shade-tolerant and must not be exposed to direct strong light, otherwise the leaves can easily turn yellow or develop brown spots.
If you want it to bloom more, when potting, you can apply sufficient base fertilizer at the bottom of the pot, mainly decomposed organic fertilizer. Normally, fertilize about once every 10 days. After the flower buds form, also increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Be careful not to pour fertilizer water on the leaves either, otherwise the leaves can easily rot.
