We all know that gardenia is an acid-loving flowering plant, and when our potted gardenia has been growing for a long time, the soil may become slightly alkaline, which easily causes the potting soil to compact, and the gardenia will show yellowing leaves.

Once it lacks water, the gardenia will go limp, so we must never let it lack water. When the soil surface is dry, water it thoroughly right away. If it was short of water, the limp leaves will stand up again shortly after watering.

The gardenias we usually buy come with flower buds. When moved to a new environment, they may not adapt well, and flowering requires a lot of nutrients, so after repotting, the buds and branches need to be pruned a bit, otherwise the buds will not open fully.

If you want the gardenia to grow well and bloom abundantly, of course it needs balanced nutrition, and gardenia loves fertilizer. Once it lacks any element, it will show a sickly state. For example, newly grown tender leaves with green veins and yellow leaf tissue are caused by nitrogen deficiency, but adding only nitrogen easily leads to growing only leaves and no flowers, so it is best to fertilize with comprehensive nutrients.
