Bean sprouts are a home-style dish we eat all year round. They can not only be eaten as a vegetable, with plenty of vitamins, but also as a soy product, with rich calcium, so both the elderly and children should eat more of them. But many bean sprouts on the market have hormones added, so it's better to make your own for peace of mind. The weather right now is just right for growing bean sprouts, so everyone hurry up and learn~

Which beans can be sprouted

1. Yellow soybean sprouts

Yellow soybean sprouts grown from yellow soybeans are cooling in nature and suit summer eating. They clear heat and relieve summer heat, and supplement protein and calcium. They are low in cholesterol and also suit people with high cholesterol!

2. Mung bean sprouts

Mung bean sprouts are the sprouts soaked and grown from mung beans. They are also a cooling dish, and eating them in summer can detoxify and promote urination, clear heat and relieve summer heat. Huahua hears that mung bean sprouts also contain a lot of vitamin C, so does eating them also whiten the skin~

3. Pea sprouts

Pea sprouts grown from peas are refreshing and tasty in stir-fries and soups, a must-have on the table in the scorching summer. What's more, peas grow quickly, and after cutting one round they can grow again, so one batch of sprouts can be eaten for several meals!

4. Black bean sprouts

Black bean sprouts grown from black beans are said to be even more nutritious than mung bean sprouts, mainly because they contain many minerals and vitamins, such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, etc. Since black bean sprouts are so good, why do we eat them less? Mainly because black beans are expensive and sprout slowly, so fewer are sold. If you want to try them, you can make them at home~

After seeing these bean sprouts, are you already eager to try? Actually the steps for sprouting all kinds of beans are about the same and very easy to do. Hurry and get your beans ready, Huahua will now teach you how to grow bean sprouts!

Step-by-step guide to growing bean sprouts

1. Pick the beans and remove the bad ones

According to Huahua's experience, 150 grams of beans is enough for one plate of food, you can use this as a reference. First sort through the prepared beans; moldy, shriveled, black-spotted, and worm-holed ones must all be discarded. Then soak them in water, and beans that float on the surface are also no good and must be discarded.

2. Soak the beans in water for 10 hours

First wash the sorted beans clean with water, then add 3 times the amount of clean water and soak them, placing them in a cool place for 10 hours. If your home is over 36 degrees, Huahua suggests putting them in an air-conditioned room to avoid spoiling the soak. In summer 10 hours, in spring and autumn 15-18 hours, in winter 24 hours.

3. Prepare a container

Rinse the soaked beans clean, prepare a large cola bottle, cut off the top 1/4 of the bottle, and poke 7 or 8 small holes in the bottom of the bottle for air and water to pass through.

4. Add the beans and place a wet towel on top

Put a wet paper towel in the cola bottle, then put the beans in. Place a deep plate under the bottle to catch water, then prepare a wet towel and put it on the beans. Doing this both keeps moisture in and makes the grown sprouts plump, so you must not forget it!

5. Cover with a black bag to block light

Find a black cloth or black bag and wrap the plastic bottle with it. Blocking light is mainly to keep the sprouts from changing color. If you have a fairly dark corner at home, you can also skip the bag. After blocking the light, pour water (1 small bowl) over the beans, then put them in a cool place, and get ready for them to sprout!

5. Water 3 times a day

Every day in the morning, noon, and evening, water the beans. Tap water or cooled boiled water is fine, but note it must be clean water and must not contain oil, otherwise all your previous work is wasted.

6. Sprouts appear in 3-5 days

Bean sprouts grow fastest in summer, usually finishing in 3-5 days. The sprouts you grow yourself not only have no hormones, but are also sweet and tasty, so it's best to eat them right away the same day!

If your bean sprouts grow too fast and have already grown leaves, it's best not to eat them, and instead keep them as a potted plant~

7. Other notes

Not only plastic bottles, but plastic boxes, large bowls, and water basins can all be used to grow bean sprouts. Just be careful to keep them moist and block the light. Bean sprouts grow very fast, so be sure to keep a close eye on them~
