How to grow savoy cabbage? Detailed cultivation techniques
1) Varieties and cultivation seasons.
① Varieties.
ZhongSheng savoy cabbage: suitable for spring and autumn cultivation, harvested 80 days after planting out, round ball shape, outer leaves dark green, head creamy yellow, single head weighs 1.6 kg, strong cold tolerance, rich in vitamins, can be eaten raw or used in salads.
Promasa: suitable for spring and autumn planting, harvested 85 days after planting out, leaves dark grayish green, head round ball shape, light yellow-green, single head weighs 1.8 kg.
② Cultivation seasons. Mainly open-field cultivation in spring and autumn.
Spring cultivation: raised in a greenhouse, sown in January to February, planted out from mid-March to April, harvested in early to mid-June.
Autumn cultivation: raised in the open field, sown in mid to late June, planted out in mid to late July, harvested in mid to late October.
2) Key cultivation techniques
① Raising seedlings. For spring cultivation, raise seedlings in a greenhouse, sowing in January to February; for autumn cultivation, sow in mid to late June, choose a plot with good ventilation and good drainage and irrigation, and use a shade frame to protect against heat and rain when raising seedlings. The seedling-raising method is the same as for red cabbage. Prick out seedlings when two true leaves and one heart leaf have formed, and prepare to plant out when there are 5 to 6 leaves. ② Planting out. Prepare the land before planting out, apply 22500 kg of decomposed compost per hectare as base fertilizer, make flat beds 1.0 to 1.1 m wide, plant in double rows, with a plant and row spacing of 40 to 50 cm x 50 to 55 cm. For spring cultivation, plant out from mid to late March to early April; for autumn cultivation, plant out in mid to late July. When planting out, do not set the seedlings too deep; the surface of the soil ball should be level with the bed surface, and water promptly after planting.
③ Field management. Water once 5 to 7 days after planting out; when the soil surface is slightly dry, loosen the soil to conserve moisture; afterward, water as needed according to weather conditions and seedling growth, always keeping the soil alternating between dry and moist, and cultivate and loosen the soil promptly after each watering. After the seedlings have recovered, apply topdressing along with watering, applying 150 kg of urea per hectare, or 300 kg of ammonium sulfate, or 300 to 375 kg of ammonium bicarbonate; apply the second topdressing at the rosette stage, applying 225 kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer per hectare; when entering the heading stage, apply the third topdressing, applying 330 kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer per hectare.
