Q: What are the imported beef cattle breeds from abroad?
A: After the reform and opening up, China imported quite a few fine beef fattening cattle breeds from abroad. The main ones are the following six:

1. Hereford cattle. Originally from the United Kingdom, it is a small beef cattle breed. The beef is tender and juicy, with a delicious flavor. It is early maturing, gains weight quickly, tolerates roughage, has strong disease resistance, and is suitable for grazing.

2. Angus cattle (hornless black cattle). Originally from the United Kingdom, it is an early-maturing small to medium-sized beef cattle breed. It matures early, tolerates roughage, is cold-resistant, and highly adaptable. It has a gentle temperament and is suitable for grazing.

3. Charolais cattle. Originally from France, it is a large beef cattle breed. It has good meat production performance, with a usual dressing percentage of 60%-70% and a net meat percentage of the carcass of 80%-85%; the meat quality is good and it has a lot of lean meat. It has characteristics such as strong adaptability, tolerance of roughage, cold resistance, and disease resistance, but its reproductive rate is low and its calving difficulty rate is high.

4. Limousin cattle. Originally from France, it is a large beef cattle breed. It has the characteristics of strong adaptability, tolerance of roughage, grazing in ecological environments, strong compensatory growth ability, and high feed utilization. Its calving difficulty rate is lower than that of Charolais cattle.

5. Piedmontese cattle. Originally from Italy, it is a medium-sized beef cattle breed. Its main characteristics are rapid early growth, little subcutaneous fat, a high dressing percentage, a large ribeye area, tender meat, and extremely high hide elasticity. However, it is prone to calving difficulty.

6. Simmental cattle. Originally from the Alpine region, namely western Switzerland and France, Germany, Austria, and elsewhere. It is a world-famous dual-purpose cattle breed. It has good adaptability, tolerates roughage, has a gentle temperament, and is suitable for grazing.
