An introduction to the timing and symptoms of sexual maturity in rabbits
When is the sexual maturity period for rabbits? What are the symptoms?
Under different feeding and management conditions, among different breeds of domestic rabbits, and among different individuals, there is a certain degree of variation in how early or late sexual maturity occurs. Small breeds reach sexual maturity at 3.5-4 months of age for does and 4-4.5 months of age for bucks. Large and medium breeds are somewhat later: medium breeds reach sexual maturity at 4.5-5.5 months of age, and large breeds at 6-7 months of age.
When newborn rabbits grow and develop to a certain age, when the buck's testes can produce sperm capable of fertilization and the doe's ovaries can produce eggs that can combine with the buck's sperm, this is called sexual maturity. Domestic rabbits mature early sexually, showing signs of estrus at 4-5 months of age. Domestic rabbits that have just entered the sexual maturity period are still in a vigorous stage of growth and development, and their weight and body size have not yet reached standard. Do not rush to breed them. Breeding too early is harmful to the rabbit's own growth and development, the newborn kits are small in size, the survival rate is low, and the doe's useful lifespan is short, making her prone to premature birth and early aging.
