Nutritional regulation of gilts can achieve high productivity
(Agricultural Wealth Network) Nutritional regulation of gilts can achieve high productivity
--------------------------------------
I. Nutritional regulation during the 30-85 kg stage.

When a gilt weighs 30 kg, each kilogram of compound feed should contain 13 MJ of digestible energy, 16% crude protein, 0.8% lysine, 0.75% calcium, and 0.65% phosphorus, with free access to feed and no restriction of feeding amount, to promote the gilt's growth as quickly as possible. Starting from a body weight of 45 kg, the calcium and phosphorus levels in the diet should be increased by another 0.1 percentage point. When the gilt reaches 5 months of age and a body weight of about 85 kg, restrict feeding begins, still using the above diet, with daily feed intake controlled at 2.3-2.8 kg according to body condition.

II. Nutritional regulation from 110 kg to the farrowing stage.

When a gilt reaches 8 months of age and a body weight of 110 kg, first mating is relatively appropriate. Do not mate during the first estrus, as the sow's ovarian function is not yet fully developed at this time. Begin supplemental feeding to stimulate estrus two weeks before mating, increasing the feeding amount by 40-50%, reaching a daily feeding of 3.8-4 kg of compound feed. Supplemental feeding to stimulate estrus can increase ovulation and increase litter size by 2 piglets per litter. After mating is completed, immediately reduce the feeding amount to the level before supplemental flushing, about 2.2 kg per day, with each kilogram of diet containing 12.1 MJ of digestible energy, 13% crude protein, 0.6% lysine, 0.75% calcium, and 0.65% phosphorus. Starting from day 84 of pregnancy, the dietary nutritional level can be raised to 12.5-13 MJ of digestible energy per kg, 14% crude protein, 0.75% lysine, 0.8% calcium, and 0.65% phosphorus, with a daily feeding amount of 3.25-3.5 kg. 2-3 days before farrowing, reduce the daily feeding amount to about 1.8 kg to avoid causing dystocia.

III. Nutritional regulation after farrowing and during the lactation stage.

5-7 days after the sow farrows, the feeding amount should be gradually increased to the maximum. First, based on 1.5 kg of diet, add 0.5 kg of feed for each piglet nursed; for example, if nursing 10 piglets, the daily feeding amount is 6.5 kg. If the sow's feed intake is low, consider adding 2-4% oil to the feed and correspondingly increasing the protein content of the diet to ensure sufficient milk production by the sow. During this period, each kilogram of diet should contain 13-13.8 MJ of digestible energy, 14-16% crude protein, 0.7-0.75% lysine, 0.84% calcium, and 0.7% phosphorus.
