(Agricultural Wealth Network) What measures are there to save feed in pig farming?
--------------------------------------
In pig farming costs, feed accounts for more than 75%, so to reduce pig farming costs, the first thing is to work on saving feed. In pig farming practice, the author adopted the "four measures" to save feed and achieved the goal of cutting costs and increasing efficiency.
--------------------------------------
Purchase or prepare a scientifically sound and economical complete feed. For example, use reputable premix or concentrate and mix feed on your own to reduce costs. The feed formula should be adjusted according to factors such as the pig breed, feed intake, season, price changes of various raw materials and pig prices. For example, when the temperature is low in winter, the crude protein content in pig feed can be reduced by about 1%; when high temperatures in summer cause a drop in feed intake, the dietary concentration must be increased accordingly, especially the levels of energy and vitamins. In particular, an appropriate amount of oil must be added to the feed formula for lactating sows to ensure their production potential is brought into play.
--------------------------------------
Feed pigs with green feed. Using green feeds such as chicory, cup plant, and alfalfa to replace concentrate feed for pigs has achieved relatively good economic benefits. On average, each meat pig was fed 77.5 kg of chicory and 214.5 kg of concentrate, and the income per pig was 32.92 yuan more than that of the control group (the control group was 57.87 yuan). Chicory yields 6000 kg per mu, and the cost per kg is about 0.07 yuan. A high-fiber diet for open sows is beneficial for increasing litter size, and each sow can be fed 3.5 kg to 5 kg of grass per day; lactating sows, breeding boars and pigs at the piglet stage should be fed less green feed.
--------------------------------------
Use substitutes and open up cheap feed resources. When using premix to mix feed on your own, the amount of fish meal and soybean meal can be reduced, and 4% each of cottonseed meal and rapeseed meal can be used instead. For small-scale pig farming by farmers, discarded chicken and duck eggshells, mussel shells, snail shells, and livestock and poultry bones can be burned dry and crushed, and deep yellow clay and coal ash residue can each be added at about 1% in the diet to make up for the deficiency of trace elements. There is much experience in feeding meat pigs with cooked swill from hotels, restaurants, eateries, and institutional canteens, and feeding each meat pig 7 kg of swill per day can achieve the goal of saving money and promoting rapid growth.
--------------------------------------
Reduce feed waste. Strengthen management of the feed use process, inspect and improve feed troughs, and minimize feed waste as much as possible; eliminate rats and flies, carry out deworming in a timely manner, and reduce feed waste caused by internal and external parasites in pigs; pay attention to the harm of feed mycotoxins and do not use moldy and deteriorated feed ingredients to feed pigs; without hesitation, dispose of piglets in poor health as soon as possible. If a piglet dies at birth or is culled, the loss is about 150 yuan, and dying midway will cause a loss of 200 yuan to 500 yuan.
